Unfortunately, the same people who oppose abortion also oppose doing anything to prevent the children born from growing up in the worst circumstances

Please don't speak in absolutes. We cannot be considered civilized if we don't protect children, at all stages of life, including pre-separation infants. Now we're allowing abortion, providing birth control, subsidizing moms who have children, and the situation keeps getting worse. The problem is that a moral society cannot compromise on absolutes.

Ours has become a culture of death. Until mothers are expected to consider raising their children as a sacred obligation, abortions or not, there will be unwanted children. If anything, a woman is more likely to be responsible if she knows her actions will determine the path her life takes.

I remember the argument back in 1969-1970 in support of abortion. It was "if abortion is allowed, there won't be any unwanted children", spewed by a bunch of elitist liberal women I had the privilege of playing bridge with once a week. How has that reasoning worked for us?

Could we take care of our own? Sure. But not in the garbage society that has evolved from that pandering enabling mentality that began to prevail about 45 years ago.

” I’m upset because his statement, while truthful, is none the less politically suicidal.”

In what way?

You may like the approach of punishing the women, but I prefer the approach of shutting down the abortion indusrty.

Unfortuunately, in actual practice, you can't do both.

So choose one.

Trump is ok with Planned Parenthood who chop these children up and sell them wholesale as they do other valuable things for women.
Are you being purposely obtuse here just to try to smack Trump?

Planned Parenthood is without a doubt the most evil organization in America. They should be de-funded and hopefully collapse from their own weight. For anyone to suggest that they do good things is abhorrent to my conscience. To further suggest that they should quit doing abortions and stick to their “good things” but that women who get abortions deserve punishments is a travesty of justice.

The only time I have actually seen a punish the women attitude on the local level in the pro life movement has been from liberals ought to give pro-lifers a bad name. I don't think that's what Trump is doing, but I have seen it done before.

If that's obtuse so be it.

Perhaps people should read what he said since those are not his words but those of the Establishment person.

The only thing he said was people should be punished for violating the law. All else is Lawyer games and not his statement.

More anti-Trump media distortion. Trump said people should be punished IF THEY BREAK THE LAW. Anti-Trumpers are such dishonest people.

Not exactly; he's backpedaling as fast as he can here.

From this thread.
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3415717/posts

“If Congress were to pass legislation making abortion illegal and the federal courts upheld this legislation, or any state were permitted to ban abortion under state and federal law, the doctor or any other person performing this illegal act upon a woman would be held legally responsible, not the woman,” Trump said in a written statement. “The woman is a victim in this case as is the life in her womb.”

Earlier, at a taped MSNBC town hall to be aired later Wednesday, Trump said if abortions were illegal, women should be held responsible.

Host Chris Matthews pressed Trump to clarify, asking him whether abortion should be punished and who ultimately should be held accountable.

“Look, people in certain parts of the Republican Party, conservative Republicans, would say, ‘Yes, it should,’” Trump said.

The candidate later put out a statement saying: “This issue is unclear and should be put back into the states for determination.”

What is your suggestion? Prison?

Well, what sorts of punishments are given to women who strangle their newborns or dump them in the trash? Sadly, it happens, and it's covered in criminal statutes throughout the country. Probably varies lot--6 months in county jail, 3-year suspended sentence, things like that. I know it's not politically correct to say, but I think that abortion should be punished similarly to infanticide. It makes no sense to me that a mother can legally kill a child in a 'hired hit' as long as the child is in utero, but a few weeks later killing the same kid (ex utero) is considered a heinous crime.

It has nothing to do with that, believe me. Gotcha questions come from both the left and the right.

The issue is law enforcement is the responsibility of the executive branch of government.

Any sitting President has to enforce the laws the Legislative branch makes and the Judicial branch deems constitutional. The US is getting a remedial civics lesson, and judging by the responses on this thread, it’s long overdue.
