Huh? Trump unleashes BIZARRE attack on Scott Walker after Cruz endorsement
Allen B. West ^ | March 29, 2016 | Michelle Hickford

Posted on 03/29/2016 3:28:49 PM PDT by Hilda

"Far be it from me to understand the meteoric rise of Donald Trump, but many folks have been willing to overlook his not exactly iron-clad conservative bona fides because of his apparent determination to fix a broken government and upend the entrenched establishment. And who could disagree with stopping the flood of illegal immigration, strengthening our borders and making sure we make better trade deals?

However, conservatives willing to overlook his shifting opinions on social issues and unclear policies for repealing and replacing Obamacare may be having second thoughts after this latest attack on Scott Walker, after his endorsement of the very conservative Ted Cruz.

According to The Guardian, Donald Trump attacked Wisconsin governor Scott Walker for failing to raise taxes in order to properly fund schools and roads on Tuesday, in a startling new break from rightwing orthodoxy from the Republican frontrunner.

Walker became a conservative hero for his efforts to crush public sector unions and cut government spending in the Democratic-leaning state in Wisconsin, something that led to an attempted recall of the Wisconsin governor in 2012 and became a national cause célèbre. But, in a radio interview with talkshow host Michael Koolidge on Tuesday, Trump bashed Walker’s administration.

“There’s a $2.2bn deficit and the schools were going begging and everything was going begging because he didn’t want to raise taxes ’cause he was going to run for president,” said Trump. “So instead of raising taxes, he cut back on schools, he cut back on highways, he cut back on a lot of things.”

Um, well…maybe this is a clever way to build a ‘bigger tent” and attract Independents and Democrats, but how is pushing for higher taxes going to appeal to skeptical conservatives? Gosh, I’m not a billionaire businessperson, but even I know raising taxes isn’t the only answer for funding crucial budget items. How about just cutting back on waste, fraud and abuse in other areas?

In any event, Mr. Trump’s statement regarding the deficit isn’t actually true, when you take into account Wisconsin’s budget rules, according to Politifact:

By law, Wisconsin’s two-year budgets must be balanced — revenue equaling expenditures.

So, unlike the federal government, Wisconsin can never run an actual budget deficit by borrowing money that piles up as debt.

Trump said that under Walker, Wisconsin “projected a $1 billion (budget) surplus and it turns out to be a deficit of $2.2 billion.”

There was in early 2014 a projection of a $1 billion surplus heading into the 2015-’17 budget period. Late in 2014, there was a projection of a $2.2 billion shortfall — the difference between expected revenues and the amount of money being requested by state agencies. But the shortfall was never a deficit — and some of the surplus was consciously spent by Republicans, as tax cuts.

For a statement that contains only an element of truth and ignores critical facts that would give a different impression, our rating is Mostly False.

And for a candidate trying very hard to compete for votes from committed conservatives, I would rate Donald Trump’s comments about raising taxes mostly alarming.

Wisconsin is an open primary, which is in my opinion why he spoke against Walker the way he spoke.

I supported Walker early on. Was sorry he dropped out.

Because is a true conservative and has reformed Wisconsin and eliminated a lot of Democrat corruption in the State.

He stood up to the Democrat national power structure and won.

Do some research and learn what Walker and the Republicans have done!

Don’t worry, by tomorrow he’ll deny having said it.

I'm enjoying watching posts from DIMBULBS like you who have NO idea what Trump is doing and WHY?.

I doubt you'd have a clue even if someone explained it to you.

And don't reply with the obligatory "well then explain it to us" retort.

You can find Trumps position on his site Trump Tax Policy That is Trumps federal policy on taxes. State taxes are a different matter. States have different needs based on their financial condition. Some states have balanced budgets and do not need any new taxes or can actually reduce taxes. Apparently Trump feels that Walker was unable to balance the Wisconsin budget without a tax increase. Walker took tax increases off the table and consequently did not balance the budget.

Or - Scott Walker dared to endorse someone besides Trump, so Trump will find a reason to criticize him. And, he criticized Walker for not raising taxes, but Trumpsters will ignore the actual substance - if it were a Democrat doing the same thing, that Democrat would be excoriated.

Stop talking the truth, Mr. West.

The byline says Michelle Hickford, not Alan West.

News flash! Trump knew all along that Walker would not endorse him. Now that Walker has officially endorsed Cruz it is in Trumps best interest to minimize the endorsement. Thats what Trump is doing. Its called politics!

I wasn’t commenting on what Trump was doing, as you point out that is expected. I’m more amazed that Trump supporters accept that particular criticism, even trying to justify it as somehow acceptable

Compare Trump's reaction to Ted's tweet reaction to Palin's endorsement of Trump below:

"Ted Cruz ‎‎@tedcruz I love @SarahPalinUSA Without her support, I wouldn't be in the Senate. Regardless of what she does in 2016, I will always be a big fan. 12:55 PM - 19 Jan 2016"

Cruz is thankful for Palins help in his winning a Senate seat. Palin did not support Cruz for the Presidency. In spite of this Cruz has a positive feeling about Palin. Trump has no such feeling regarding Walker. Walker has been very negative toward Trump since the debates. Could be that Walker is a sore loser and now has an opportunity to weaken Trump a bit.

When I read the bit about needing to find a replacement for Obamacare, I knew this was a left wing hit piece, The byline on the article makes no difference. We had universal health care before Obamacare and Health Insurance was available if you wanted to buy it and could pay for it. There is no right to health care or health insurance.

Maybe you have followed Walker's statements since the debates but there was nothing in Walker's endorsement of Cruz today that mentioned or was negative to Trump.

By your standard, I suppose you can say any candidate that has dropped out would be a "sore loser" by endorsing anyone of the other candidates, such previous candidates Chris Christie and Ben Carson come to mind.

Frankly I am not aware of Ted Cruz attacking any of the ex-candidates that have endorsed Trump. Maybe you are aware of such attacks.

Attacking ex-candidates does not seem a smart move if you are wanting to eventually unite the party when there is finally a nominee.
