The Dirty Dozen - Meet The Republicans That Will Vote For Hillary
Zero Hedge ^ | 03/25/2016 | Tyler Durden

Members of the GOP foreign policy establishment are open to supporting Hillary Clinton for president if that’s what it takes to prevent Donald Trump from becoming commander in chief. As The Hill reports, a number of prominent Republicans who signed a scathing open letter denouncing Trump said they aren’t wavering from their opposition to him..."Donald Trump is not a Republican. ... He is a caricature of classless wealth. ... He is a caricature of the ugly American."

“What’s happening is you have a lot of people who are desperate to get anybody in there other than Trump. ... People are going to go for Cruz, because at the end of the day they think he’s considerably less bad than Trump,” said Eliot A. Cohen, a former adviser to Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) who also served in the George W. Bush administration.

Cohen, along with Bryan McGrath, organized an open letter opposing Trump that was signed by more than 120 members of the Republican foreign policy establishment. The letter declared that Trump is unfit to be president because his views of American power are “wildly inconsistent and unmoored in principle.” The Hill contacted 13 of the people on the letter and heard back from all but two of them...

“Donald Trump is not a Republican. ... He is a caricature of classless wealth. ... He is a caricature of the ugly American,” said McGrath, the deputy director at the Center for American Seapower at the Hudson Institute who is now working with the Cruz campaign.......... snip

Trump is in the business of ratings. Spouting touchy feely politically correct nonsense does not get ratings.

Trump really is the Rodney Dangerfield crashing the country club,,, but Cruz could be our Chevy Chase in that analogy.

Yes, I know. I'd like to get the news out, because Americans are in danger, but posting on blogs and talking to friends is the extent of my alarm mechanisms.

Russians are already getting ready.

Well said, but you forgot to mention that Jeb Bush had Paul Wolfowitz as adviser.

I was listening to Stephen Cohen on John Batchelor’s radio show recently (WMAL, online) - Cohen has been a well regarded Russia scholar for many years.

Cohen spoke of a split in the Russian foreign policy establishment between the group that wishes to have closer to ties to the West, and the group that is highly suspicious of the West and is calling for a new Cold War.

Cohen criticized Hillary and Rubio for strengthening the New Cold War faction with Hillary comparing Putin to Hitler and Rubio talking about challenging Russia over Syria and Ukraine, among other places.

Cohen said that while he is not a fan of Trump he did give Trump credit for his position on Russia, for giving hope to the pro-West faction in Russia.

“If Trump is denied the nomination I’m staying home.”

I’ve watched and liked your posts a lot for years. If you wouldn’t mind some advice from a very old woman, don’t stay home. Be a Kamikaze voter like I will. Vote for Pres. whoever is over there at the side, Libertarian, Constitution party, whatever. Then go down the ballot and vote Dem for every single office, unless there’s a Libertarian running for it, I’ll vote for him instead. I will vote for NO Republicans. I will want the Rep. party DEAD.

And I’ve been straight-ticket for 52 years.

Fwiw, Steve Cohen is an old Lefty. He's married to uber-Leftist Katrina VandenHeuvel of The Nation.

I too listen to him on the Bachelor show, but take his comments with a large grain of salt.

Another regular guest on the Bachelor show is Michael Vlahos. I've never understood why anyone invites him on the air. The man is a pompous windbag.

“Fwiw, Steve Cohen is an old Lefty.”

Yeah I know he comes out of that camp, but I really can’t think of a time where I’ve suspected that he’s coloring his reporting to serve an agenda. He sounds like he’s giving us his honest opinion. It’s not like he’s an old Soviet apologist of the Walter Duranty sort. But it doesn’t hurt to keep his background in mind.

As for Michael Vlahos, I can’t think of anything that he’s ever said even though I know I’ve heard him on Batchelor. I guess that’s a sort of agreement with your opinion of him.

If I was Trump and elected president. I would tell these jerks “I’m keeping an eye on you.”. Its my belief that is the basis of their non support of Trump. It all revolves around keeping the golden goose.

Just what we need at this stage of our faltering republic.

Winston Churchill had those qualities, as well.

By using both Wolfowitz and Baker as advisors, Jeb was only saying that NeoCons and Realists would have equal footing in his administration.

The NeoCons, as I said, were less than thrilled with that.

Trump will never be elected if he can't unify the Republican Party.

In 1988, HW Bush was elected in a landslide. He won 59% of the white vote and won 40 states. In 2012, Romney won 59% of the white vote and lost. That shows how the demographics have changed in just one generation.

So, you can be flippant all you want, but Trump will need a lot more than 59% of the white vote to win in 2016 and that will be very tough to do, no matter who is the nominee. Trump will lose 95% of the black vote as usual and 60% of the Hispanic vote, at a minimum. The black and Hispanic vote are estimated to make up 28% of the vote in 2016.

So again, say the, "there is more of us than there is them" (kind of bold, considering Trump can't even get 50% of the vote anywhere in a republican primary, particularly in a state like Arizona that is handmade for him). Good luck, because I already know some people who declare they will not vote for Trump under any circumstances. I don't think that is necessarily true, but for them to change their minds and vote for Trump in November, Trump is going to have to play nice, be nice and stop tweeting.

If you believe that Trump can't do that because that is who he is, then, he will lose in November. People don't vote for someone they don't like - it really is that simple.

Well, that happened with Romney. Millions of republicans stayed home and helped elect Obama, so yes, voters will also do that with Trump. It has happened plenty of times before.

To a certain extent it seems to underscore what you were saying. Also, sometimes I will see some contradiction of the theme of that article.

The German web site has a completely different approach based on current events in Germany and the EU.
