Republicans have assumed this entire elections season that a candidate must have won at least 8 state primaries or caucuses to be eligible for the GOP nomination, but apparently that is not the case and apparently a rule change hasnt technically occurred, but thats not the way it seems.
Even Ted Cruz said just last night that John Kasich wasnt eligible because he hadnt won enough states, so even he was mislead.
Insiders now say rule 40(b) only applied to the republican convention in 2012 and was never intended to be used in future elections.
From Washington Examiner:
Party officials and knowledgeable sources have confirmed over the past few days that Rule 40(b) doesnt exist for the purposes of the upcoming convention. That means at this point, the three candidates left in the race, front-runner Donald Trump, Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas, and Ohio Gov. John Kasich, are all eligible for the nomination, as, possibly, are the Republican contenders who have since suspended their campaigns.
Ben Ginsberg, a Republican elections lawyer who was involved in rule-making process for the 2012 convention, said that Rule 40(b) isnt transferrable to the 2016 convention. Ginsberg explained to the Washington Examiner that what was passed in 2012 applied only to 2012, and that the 2016 convention must pass its own rule determining nomination eligibilty.
RNC Chairman Reince Priebus confirmed Ginsbergs assessment on Sunday during a television interview. There will always be a perception problem if people continue to miss to not explain the process properly. So, the 2012 rules committee writes the rules for the 2012 convention. The 2016 rules committee writes the rules for the 2016 convention, he told CNN.

Where is Alf Landon when you need him?
this women voter story has all the believability of the war on women BS.
If Trump has the most votes even if just close to 1237 and doesn’t get the nomination My Wife Friends and myself who originally supported Cruz will be voting not just for Hillary but for the whole Dem ticket.
The reason I support Trump is the GOPe went to war with the Tea Party, didn’t keep their campaign pledges, and have added Trillions to the debt. Obamacare still is being funded, the wall isn’t built. Keystone isn’t built, money isn’t repatriated, Obama hasn’t been stopped with exec orders.
Cotton amend let Iran deal go thru. The GOP guys deserve to lose their jobs. 241 votes in House is about a hundred year high and we have Freaking Puke Ryan doing nothing but capitulating to Obama and blasting Trump
Vote the GOP out and start a new party based on Libertarian
Party and Tea Party and Religious right. Add in Fiscal conservatives who like me want the national budget cut by a third and sent back to the states and we won’t need Mc Turdle.
No...poetic license...you must be a supporter of Unstable Donald?
Face it, if Trump doesn’t get the nomination with a simple majority of delegates, Trumpsters will pick up their toys, go home and blame Cruz if he loses. OTH, if Trump wins the nomination with the simple majority he is demanding, then the anti-Trumps pick up their toys, go home and then the Trumpsters blame it on them for losing to Hillary. Either way, the gop is screwed and so is this country because we won’t unite behind whomever is the nominee.
>>Elites are false all the way around here. Guess we will need prayers.
I’ve been calling them the Elites for a while now. After seeing how relentless they are in their perpetration of evil, I believe I will start calling them “Satan’s Children”.
We surely do need to be in prayers, many times throughout each day, that God would deliver DJT and our nation from so many profoundly evil forces. And that He would restore our country to once again be His great “nation under God”.
Well, libbylu is a nut.
People are not faring well under the Democrat regime. They never have.
Obama supports anything that hurts a citizens ability to live in a free society and succumb to government rule.
Libbylu is here to keep the status quo of DC.
As a Trump supporter, I would be fine if Trump lost the nomination in a fair fight.
However, it is quite clear that a fair fight will not be allowed.
Yes, I will pick up my toys and go away. Or, more accurately, I’ll vote straight Democrat in the Fall. I’ll do everything I can to destroy the Republican party.
I have voted straight Republican in every election since the 1970s. I’ve held my nose and voted for people I strongly disliked — I did it for the party.
Now there is a candidate I truly like. First time since 1984. I want Trump. If the party cheats me out of Trump, then I’ll do whatever I can to block any and all Republicans from holding public office.
That would make the RNC quite happy. They view Trump and his supporters as such pesky little creatures, like ants at THEIR picnic. They win whether they win or lose. They propbably prefer to lose so there’s no pressure to deliver. Yet they can still participate in all the parties, inside information, perks just as if they had “won”. That’s why they would prefer our nationalist support to go elsewhere and stop mucking up their nice little “arrangements”.
I take it you need a beach or mountain top to find your safe place. I know poetry but to use license means you stole it.
Yes the current rules were adopted at the 2012 convention. The adoption of the 2016 will be one
of the first items on the agenda at the upcoming convention. Nothing new about this process.
I’ve felt so sick to my stomach having voted for Dole, McCain, and Romney. If they steal it from DJT, I will write in his name, and vote Libertarian down ticket. That way, neither Dems nor Pubs get my vote. Imagine them trying to hand count millions of write-in votes for DJT. They would probably just throw them out, but, it wouldn’t really matter what they did at that point, as the country would be beyond the point of restoration.
Just another example of how the GOPe is no different than the Democrat party. If you don’t like the rules in place, change them to suit your purpose, even if you were the ones who created the original rule.
I know what you mean. “Parties” aren’t even mentioned in our Constitution, so it’s not like we HAVE to have these privately owned corrupt organizations.
I haven’t made my mind up who I want as the candidate, but if they play these games with the nomination, I won’t be voting.
Right. So, in essence, we have two privately owned organizations holding hostage our votes. We can only vote “through” them. It’s really quite ridiculous, isn’t it?
then just go ahead and slap them silly, I’ll help pay your Bail.
If they pull the rug out from under Trump it will be like obamacare. No obstacle too great to keep the glorious revolution moving forward.
