To understand the concern, and in some cases the panic, of many Republican officials over Donald Trump, consider this fact: Young people generally dont like him. The potential of losing an election is one thing, but as polling numbers suggest, the Trump brand could weigh on the G.O.P. for a generation.
■ In a recent USA Today/Rock the Vote poll, respondents under 35 said they would pick Hillary Clinton over Mr. Trump, 52-19. Those lopsided numbers would be hard to reverse if Mr. Trump were the nominee because he is such a known quantity. When the respondents were limited to whites only, her lead was still substantial, 45-26.
■ A recent Washington Post-ABC News poll showed Mr. Trump and Mrs. Clinton essentially tied among people 40 and older, but with those under 40 preferring her by a nearly 2-to-1 margin.
■ In a national survey led by the Republican pollster Frank Luntz, 1,000 people 18 to 26 were asked: Out of todays major political figures, who do you like and respect the most?
Thirty-one percent chose Bernie Sanders, followed by 18 percent for Barack Obama and 11 percent for Mrs. Clinton. Mr. Trump scored highest among Republicans, at 9 percent. In USA Today, Mr. Luntz called it a a chasm of disconnection that renders every prominent national Republican irrelevant with the voting bloc that could control campaigns for the next 30 years.

Any bad poll numbers BLAIM THE GOP’s’OUR PRINCIPLES PAC’ ...period
Fat slobs Erickson & Luntz should worry about their fatness for the next 30 years of health.
I wouldn’t expect any of the youth to vote for any Republican after the years of liberal indoctrination that they have undergone.
The MSM and establishment know they’re screwed if Trump runs against Hillary. I love watching them sweat.
No, the little snowflakes can’t handle an assertive individual.
The human race is doomed if these kids are our legacy.
They’ll cower in their safe space while the world burns.
The “lasting damage” I’m waiting for is that which is done to the NY Slimes!
This is your 4th or 5th anti-Trump hit thread today. Having fun or getting paid well?
They’re government-check addicts. What do you expect?
I would strongly support Cruz over Clinton.
The New York Times is concerned about the GOP losing younger voters? What would they recommend? They care so I’m sure they have a perfect solution to help the poor GOP.
More Trump magic
They felt the same way in 2010 and 2014 but didn’t show up. When Comrade Sanders doesn’t get the Democrat nomination they won’t show up either. Wait until the little girls find out about Mr. Bill the sexual monster. I’m sure they’ll all line up to volunteer for Hillary.
Oh and does anyone think they would show up for ANY Republican? This is another psy-ops poll designed to stop us.
The brainwashed young love socialism... they’ll chose Hillary over any Republican.
The data about Cruz vs Hillary is especially telling (that it’s missing, that is!)
It's awesome.
Best election ever.
Trump or Bust!
Last call for USA!
“I have been trying to tell people, Trump aint all that popular.”
Well I guess if that’s true, then Cruz is less popular than Trump based on the number of people who will come out to one of his rallies. Then there’s the matter of the disparity in both gross election votes and delegates to consider. I get it that you love Ted, but in your zeal, please don’t try blowing smoke up our a$$es!
There certainly are plenty of young voters at Donald Trump's rallies.
The rest will come around when they really start thinking about the alternative...
If the nut were even two percent honest, it would discuss how Trump attracts so many younger people to his immense rallies. At least half the audience is under 30 or so. Answer: it’s their future that’s at stake, and they’re not stupid — they realize Hillary would shaft them royally and destroy any good future they might hope to have.
Trump has a chance. Teddy has none. Kasich has none. Willard has none. Jeb? has none. Ryan has none.
But even better, if the gop decides to pull some shenanigans, the down ballot impact will be the stuff of legend. One thing the cruzlims are actually right on is that Trump supporters have no particular loyalty or even use for the gop.
