Republican presidential candidate Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX)is being accused of lifting a line from 1995’s The American President while defending his wife Heidi following a Twitter bout with frontrunner Donald Trump.
Responding to Trump’s warning to Cruz to “be careful” after an anti-Trump super PAC used a photo of Trump’s wife Malania posing nude for GQ in 2000 in an ad in Utah, the Texas Senator initially responded by calling Trump a “coward.”
Trump wrote on Twitter on Tuesday: “Lyin’ Ted Cruz just used a picture of Melania from a G.Q. shoot in his ad. Be careful, Lyin’ Ted, or I will spill the beans on your wife!”
Cruz later responded: “Pic of your wife not from us. Donald, if you try to attack Heidi, you’re more of a coward than I thought. #classless.”
Cruz then told CNN Wednesday morning, “If Donald wants to get into a character fight, he’s better off sticking with me, because Heidi is way out of his league.”
The New York Daily News is accusing Cruz of borrowing the line from the Michael Douglas film The American President without giving it attribution.
In the film, Douglas, who plays American President Andrew Shepherd, warns Sen. Bob Rumson (Richard Dreyfuss) to leave Annette Bening’s character, Sydney Ellen Wade, out of a political dispute.
“You want a character debate, Bob? You better stick with me, ’cause Sydney Ellen Wade is way out of your league,” Douglas says in the film.

You see, we Freepers are smart, and we all know that Trump was a real estate entrepreneur for 40 years (still is), building an empire and is now a billionaire. His entertainment and retail empires are frosting on the cake. Oh, that’s right, he’s written 16 books too. So a prolific author as well.
So, you can spout your cutesy reality TV star baloney all you want; we all know what your sick gig is now. We’re onto you, you know. Your effectiveness as a commentator on threads is virtually zip. Well there you have it folks, some researchers state that if someone points out the obvious, they must be projecting their own qualities onto those they are pointing out- Pointing out the fact that trump bragged about his affairs must mean that those doing the pointing out must be unfaithful too- because ‘some researchers’ say so-

For example- a person who is rude, but not wanting to appear rude, will point out that other people are being rude, in such a way as to appear that they are not begin rude when infact they really are being rude- BUT because they use highbrow arguments, and insert obscure ‘research’ into the argument, they are convinced they are simply ‘helping others’ to ‘see the error of their ways’

Sadly you are right- but i would say it’s more like a minefield of dog turds- if only they’d put this much effort into attacking hillary and bernie as they do attacking one of their own the GOP party would be in much better shape than it is- as it is, the left are laughing their butts off watching the infighting among the conservative sites likes this-

What were his ‘tells’ to reveal that his heart wasn’t sincere? Did he blink twice when saying it? Twitch his lip? Wiggle his ears? There must be something that tipped you off that he couldn’t possibly be sincere in his heart about defending his wife against trump- Do tell so we can all become heart readers too-

Folks are REALLY really stretching things in order to keep the raqe against Ted alive on FR- What next? “He scratched his nose with his ring finger, an obvious flirtatious overture to the married women in the audience”? Or “He “plagiarized” Dr Sues during his marathon congressional speech, therefore He must not have been sincere about trying to stop democrats”? Or “He quoted verbatim star wars lines during debates, therefore he is a slimy turd who isn’t sincere about helping his constituents out”?
Where does it end? Every day it’s another manufactured outrage against him- thread after th Read after thread- isn’t it time we turned our efforts to criticizing the liberal candidates instead of proving hte democrats right by showing how fractured and disarrayed the GOP has become? My apologies to JimRob notwithstanding, I still think virtually all of your threads are inane.
No, I think people are just being honest. I get that there are some who are just posting bad stuff no matter what. Trump is getting it too.
But I'm just writing what I see, nothing to do with rage, couldn't care less if you vote for Cruz or Trump.
So you can be sarcastic about God giving me the power to read Ted's heart. But, I have to make an important decision. I don't have the luxery of knowing what's in his heart. All of us have to mix a bunch of facts, semi facts, and instinct.
Mine is that Ted is not being himself and that tells me a lot. IT's not how I want to see it because originally I was for Ted. The more I see, here him though, the less I think he can connect with people.
You can be sarcastic if you want, or next time I'll attach a disclaimer that "God did not give me the power to actually know this, it's my viewpoint" ... of course, you already know that, and so does everyone else, so I would be wasting my time.
Instead of sarcasm, I might reflect on WHY so many are picking this up from him and his campaign. I can you promise you that it's simply that, not 'rage' (did God give you the power to read my heart? Wow! You're amazing) ... it's not rage, I'm not mad at Ted, I'm quite peaceful.
And, I don't trust him. So, deal with it. But hey, maybe I'm the only one who's not in a rage, maybe you're right about every single other person ... maybe it's a conspiracy to keep up the rage.
Rage seems to be yours and a lot of people's scapegoat for why the candidate they support is either having problems or falling under a lot of criticism.
