Well even though you were able to stay away from alcohol , most children of alcoholics suffer trauma in some form from their alcoholic parents and this often leads to depression and alcoholism so that the condition is passed from generation to generation.
So kudos to you but recognize that you have suffered trauma and recogize that trauma is like a scar, it never goes away so you have to learn to deal with it and not let it take over your life.
Hopefully, your witness and escape can be an good example to others.
