Complete Headline: Girl, six, to be LEGALLY torn away from her loving foster parents of five years because she is '1.5 per cent Native American' and the family is white
[Snip]
The family is under 'specific orders' not to tell Lexi or their other children what is happening.

“Was there any chance the Democratic Congress would have voted to repeal this disgraceful law? “
The Congress was half-Republican (the Senate) and Reagan had what was called at the time, a WORKING MAJORITY in the House (i.e., lots of conservative Democrats in the South).
He should have tried - he DID NOT. We need to realize that he was FAR FROM PERFECT.
And....The article states the little girl will be sent to Utah to live with NON-indian WHITE foster parents.
What? ....This is insanity!
It is ridiculous to have a different set of laws for people who have an “Indian” ancestor. No country can function when different populations have different laws. They are Americans or they are not. The idea of a sovereign nation within another one is stupid.
What the Choctaw are doing makes no sense. They want to give the girl to a non-Indian in Utah, which is almost 2,000 miles from the Choctaw homeland in Mississippi and hundreds of miles from the nearest Choctaw communities in Oklahoma. Why are they making this effort?
I’m probably 15-20%. One grandmother was half and there’s bits and pieces elsewhere in the family tree.
Those tribal officials appear to be deeply cruel people to insist on wrecking this poor child.
wow! I have more blood than that but it doesn’t qualify me for Indian programs or a piece of the casino action so how does it give a tribe rights to my orphaned children god forbid if that were to happen?
If you’re from Appalachia theres a good chance you have more than that since all of the holler to holler marrying didn’t end until about 4 generations ago! Chief Red Bird of Kentucky fame has millions of “white” decedenants.
Cruel. Look at that terrified, sobbing child being taken by strangers away from her parents (yes, her parents), and tell me it is in her best interests. What kind of sick, twisted people are willing to this?
1.5%... are they down to the “one drop theory” here?
Sounds like a hell of a case against the government when the child and her new family are shredded with Reactive Attachment Disorder.
And THAT is why we go to China to adopt.
You can take that to the bank. The BIGGEST problem with older adoptees is Attachment Disorders. This case is pretty much a roadmap to such an outcome.
I have adopted four American infants and have not had problems with this because each baby’s vetted for feather-Indian heritage.
This is not a difficult case because fosters have no legal rights.
Yes! Child abuse by government!
It’s not the individual incidents so much as the cumulative effect.
There is nothing in an adoption that the right judge can’t overturn with a domestic adoption.
The defining factor with the current laws should be whether or not the child qualifies to be a full tribal member. If the child does not qualify to be part of the tribe it would have the worst of everything, would never be accepted by the N.A. community.
If a child qualifies to belong to a tribe, with full benefits then that child should not be placed with anyone that is outside the tribe. If the tribes cannot foster their own children and adopt their own children then the law should be changed so non tribal members can adopt. The system as it is now is unfair to everyone involved and accomplishes nothing but make libs feel better.
Without being a full tribal member the child will not learn language, customs, and heritage which was the point of the law.
In this case this is just cruel and certainly NOT in the best interests of the child. The time to be concerned about this child’s N.A. heritage should have been at birth or when she was first placed in the system.
The same type of people who have no compunction in supporting stabbing partially born children in the neck with scissors. Liberals, of course.
We are indeed a melting pot here in the US. Many of us have native american dna. I have same on both sides of my family. Any child in my family would test higher than this child. Problem lies with determining childs best interest vs. insane interpretation of laws set in place to protect native american families. PC has taken over sanity in this country...in fact the world! Time to smash the PC crappola and obliterate it. PC is the NWO chaining you and your children to their agenda. They separate you from reality, impose standards to humiliate and destroy you and just when you make that run to reclaim your individuality, your freedom..they set the dogs you trusted to take you down and stomp out any glimmer of hope you had left. No more of this for me. I will support the death of PC candidate in the next election. My vote may not help this child and foster family, but hopefully will help others. Prayers for this poor little kid.
The defining factor has nothing yo do with the tribes, it has to do with the child and ONLY the child. Her family is the one who has nurtured and raised her.
It has everything to do with the tribe, they want the law to keep children in the tribe, raised with tribal customs and traditions. Obviously they have not and cannot now take this child in so the law needs to be changed. With the law should come great responsibility and the tribe is not stepping up and did not when she needed them before this family took her in. That was the time for the tribe to get involved.
This child was failed by the tribe when she needed a home several years ago, now they should stay out of it and let her have the home she has.
The intent of the law is not being followed or she would have been fostered/adopted by a tribal member from the beginning. This law needs to be repealed, it is not in the best interest of the children.
