In an interview on CBS' "Face the Nation," establishment-type Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., admitted that he would prefer to lose the election to Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton than to have Trump as president.
"We can lose an election, but I don’t want us to lose our heart and soul," said Graham. "If we nominate Donald Trump, and he carries the banner of the Republican Party, given who he is and what he said about immigrants, about Muslims and young women, we will not just lose the election. We have lost the heart and soul of the conservative movement. That's what is at stake."

Some on FR may not know why primaries were ever started at the end of the 19th century: it was to take the control of the parties out of the hands of sleezy politicians. Now we see a huge movement for 'open primaries'... this overturns the whole point of primaries - to let the people choose! With open primaries the Democraps - who are monolithic and almost always know who their candidate will be - can crossover into Republican primaries and mess up the whole process. BUT NOTE: the Repubbies never complain about that.
I propose that - if the parties are going to name super delegates and engineer brokered conventions - it is time for the individual states to stop charging the tax-paying voters with primary election costs. Let's either have honest elections or let's do something about it!
