On Friday, Donald Trump questioned whether Mitt Romney is actually Mormon. I have many friends that live in Salt Lake City and by the way, Mitt Romney is not one of them, Trump said during a Salt Lake City speech. Are you sure hes a Mormon? Are we sure?
This is the third time Trump has questioned the faith of one of his opponents, despite having criticized the practice of questioning other peoples faith, ABCs George Stephanopoulos pointed out this morning during an interview with Trump. Why do you keep doing it? he asked.
Heres Trumps reply:
With Mitt Romney well, first of all, with Mitt Romney, I was saying to the Mormons, Mormons are very smart people. And I said it in a joking way, but they can take it, you can take it any way you want. The Mormons are very smart people. I know many Mormons. I dont think Mitt Romney is a smart person. I never have thought he was a smart person, but the Mormons are very smart people. So I said, are you sure hes a Mormon? And Im not going to change it because I think Mitt Romney has proven to be not a smart person. As far as Ted Cruz, hes one of the greatest liars and biggest liars I have ever known. He lies about so much. He lies about things that he shouldnt be lying about. He lies about things that dont matter. I tell people, and I think thats why Ted Cruz has lost the Evangelical vote, look what he did with Ben Carson, who has endorsed me. Look what he did to Ben Carson. He said Ben Carson in Iowa has left. Hes out of the campaign, vote for me.

Interesting viewpoint.
A couple of problems.
If Trump is a bad person, or even just a selfish, immature one, we cannot count on him for the kind of leadership we need.
And, Trump is no Reagan. In spite of the worship he’s achieved from his supporter base, it doesn’t translate to universal support.
I don’t think he can be elected. And by nominating him, we may get Hillary and lose our country.
From the article, Trump really wasn’t challenging Romney’s faith, such to do about nothing, which is typical for the media.
Yes, Trump did attack Romney for not winning the election - he blamed Romney for being too tough on illegal immigration and pushed the GOP to adopt comprehensive immigration reform to attract the votes of Hispanics and Asians.
Trump is a complete phony who just engages in media marketing tactics. It’s obviously working but it certainly isn’t honorable conduct.
He read from 2 Corinthians, and it’s quite common and accepted among Christians to refer to the book as 2 Corinthians. The media spun lies as usual.
Everytime I start to think I would vote for Trump in a head to head with the hildabeast...... Trump says something to change my mind. I wouldn’t vote for him for dog catcher. If he is the nominee I sit it out.
And Roger Stone first met Trump when Trump and Trunp's dad were raising money for Reagan.
And these guys have the gall to say Trump is not conservative but they said Romney was. The GOPe doesn't have a clue what Conservative is.
Romney’s more of a Mormon than Beck is, from what I can tell.
Trump will get more buildings named after himself as President than he has so far. I have absolutely no problem with that.
Who are you kidding? whatever. The fact is he didn’t know the difference. He doesn’t know the normal vernacular. You’re trying to make excuses for him is just sad.
Absolutely correct. The argument that he needed to work to get Pelosi in charge of Congress because he needed to “do business” as an excuse has always been absurd - really? So it’s okay that he screwed the rest of us over for his own personal profit and we should award him with political power? We really think he won’t use the same ethics and morality he’s used for decades once he takes office? All of a sudden he’ll just change on a dime?
Half of free republic will jump off a tall building someday when it finally dawns on them that they actively supported and voted a lefty, new yawk liberal.
Thanks for again sharing the Chris Matthews perspective. Have a nice day :)
2 Corinthians is the normal vernacular, genius. Just as normal as saying 2nd Corinthians.
This actually fits in with Dilbert creator Scott Adams’ read on Trump using hypnosis and persuasion techniques. For Adams, the strongest bond is identity, so Trump attempts to undermine the identity bond between Mormon Utahns and Mitt Romney, who endorsed my preferred candidate Cruz.
It probably won’t work, but it doesn’t really hurt Trump anywhere else. If I were a Mormon, I’d want nothing to do with Romney or Reid. I’m a Catholic, and if Trump spoke similarly about Nancy Pelosi, I’d cheer him on.
************************************
Scott Adams’ analysis of Trump has been nothing short of fascinating.
Keep telling yourself that. Trump said himself that he never asked God for forgiveness. He just goes on and tries to do his best. Those are his words... You know.... you can’t say that and be a Christian. Those two cannot coexist in the same human being. His statement is the exact opposite of the christian faith. And, the new yawk liberal has the gall to accuse Romney and Cruz of not being genuine. He’s making that accusation because he isn’t genuine and he’s trying to bring them down to his level. And, half the people here that I once thought were smarter than average are proving I was wrong about them....... It is an alternate universe.
I wonder all the time if Romney isn’t the type of Mormon like Glenn Beck is....’Nut Job’ “Crazy” ‘Lunatic”....shall I go on?
I think he may be bringing up what may be an unspoken thought in the heart of Mormon country. Shrewd if thats the case.
Not this one!!! Pope Benedict was and is...
There is not a word of truth in any of these allegations. It turns out that the liar is Donald Trump and not Ted Cruz.
Cannot wait to see that carry through to CA.
