Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas says GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump is scared to debate and that Mr. Trump looks down on voters, counting on them to believe whatever he tells them.
Mr. Trump, citing a prior commitment to speak at a policy conference hosted by the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), said Wednesday he would not be attending the GOP presidential debate that had been scheduled for March 21 but was ultimately cancelled.
His excuse is silliness, and it reflects his assumption that he thinks the voters cant figure out that hes not telling [them] the truth, Mr. Cruz said on Wednesday evenings The Kelly File on Fox News.
Mr. Cruz pointed out that the conference hosted by AIPAC is a multi-day event it runs from Sunday to Tuesday and Mr. Trumps schedule would likely have been accommodated.
He chose to speak right in the middle of the debate [because] hes scared to debate, Mr. Cruz said.
And, you know, he just, he looks down on the voters, Mr. Cruz said. He thinks theyre gullible and will believe whatever hes saying. So Im going to be in D.C. for AIPAC as well since Donald is running away from the debate. Im happy to debate him there. If he wants, we can debate foreign policy, but the problem is, Donald doesnt do very well in foreign policy [because] he doesnt have even a basic modicum of knowledge.
Mr. Cruz said hes happy to debate Mr. Trump in Utah, where the Fox News debate was to be held, or Washington, D.C., or anywhere else.

you are aware right that there are not two people running, there are 3. But hey if you want to take Kasichs Constitutional rights away from what you call a great Constitutionalist then just say so , instead of saying we want a one on one.
So Ted is losing to a chicken?
I believe that’s what Romney and McCain supporters told us to do, as well.
Maybe stop putting up liberals and we’ll vote.
Yawn
You sound like a Romney supporter, 4 years ago.
Let’s face the truth, Ted Cruz is truly irrelevant in this election process. He has won less than 25% of the primaries, Trump has won 75%. Looking at the states left, Trump will do better than he did even in the past states. Recent polling shows Trump surging (again) and Cruz probably peaked around the time of the last debate, just before his betrayal on the Chicago riots.
So, why would Trump want to waste his valuable time with someone as irrelevant as Cruz? He doesn’t and won’t. And, I for one do not blame him. Maybe Cruz and Kasich should debate...
see post 191 if you get a chance.
They are facts which for some insane reason or bad losers can’t comprehend.
Now you’re just funning!!
ah yes Romney and McCain .Oh wait I know those guys. Hasn’t Romney said to us vote for cruz, the same gay who hired a Bush and has been with the Bushes at the start?
Let me encourage other members of the establishment: Keep supporting Donald Trump because every time you do it, what it is doing is telling conservatives all over the country is where you stand and who stands with you.
- Ted Cruz, New Hampshire stump speech
don’t know how you can sound like Romney to anyone on here when Romney said vote for cruz and not Trump.
For a supposedly skilled debater, Ted Cruz’s strategies seem lame and simplistic to me: Calling Trump by his first name, saying Trump is scared to debate him - these transparent tactics remind me of a boss I had who used to adjust the other chairs lower before meetings so he’d be above his adversaries.
The most honest forms of debate IMHO are ones which expose inexperience, weaknesses or inconsistencies in stated policy positions, or conflicts between past and present statements. There are plenty of opportunities to do this with Trump, but Rubio was more effective at it than Cruz.
Cruz seems prefer jumping on lame “gotcha” innuendos that everyone knows aren’t true, such as “Donald wants to keep the Iran treaty, which gives $100B to the Iranians, while removing sanctions, leaving them in a position to develop nuclear weapons...”. Everyone - I mean everyone - knows Trump’s position is clearly the exact opposite, and he repeats it in every single rally, debate or town hall. Or, “Donald would nominate liberal SC Justices like his sister, who would undermine the 2nd Amendment, promote partial birth abortion, legislate from the bench, etc. ,etc.
Everyone knows these aren’t Trump’s position’s, but Cruz acts like he thinks he had Trump cornered. Or “A candidate is responsible for the tone of his campaign, and this violence that takes place at Donald’s events just doesn’t occur at other events” - but everyone knows the protests in Chicago were not the fault of Trump or his supporters.
In the first debate, when Cruz listed the moderators stupid loaded questions, I was very impressed and I was looking for more of the same from Cruz. But since then, it just seems to be Cruz’s MO to make the kind of cowardly, indirect, unsubstantiated smears against Trump that you’d expect from the Democrat party. Not the kind of skilled debate I expected from Cruz.
Trumpers need to get their stories straight. First Cruz needed 48 % of the remaining delegates. Then it was 75. Now it’s 90!! LOL. He will get whatever he needs and be the nominee.
I want to know why this punk thinks Trump should change his schedule, expect AIPAC to change their schedule, all to accommodate him, a loser.
Creepy Cruz needs to slink back to Texas.
And Ted will be the most boring candidate in recent memory. Snooze with Cruz.
OK, so what! I'm a Trump man. I'll stipulate that Ted Terrific is a much better technical debater than The Donald. I'll stipulate that Ted Terrific is a "true" conservative. I'll stipulate that Ted Terrific has more depth of knowledge about policy.
But I reiterate. SO WHAT!
Trump has a proven record of leadership. What has Cruz ever led? Nothing.
If he really wanted some cred, he’d get on board and turn his guns towards Hillary. He wasn’t against the protestors, and now he’s not against the GOPe. Ted you chose poorly.
Or a word salad... garnished with random sprinkles of "nuclear" and "Syria".
regardless, it would have been good to see a debate between the two front runners.
This election was the model of how not to run debates. Starting with all those guys and gal on stage was horrific and boring.
It would be cool to have a Trump/Cruz debate regardless of whether Cruz no longer has much of a chance. It also would have been great practice for Trump vs. Hillary.
If he knew the constitution so well he would know he does not qualify to be the President geeeesh get a life.
Brilliant post but leave me out of this.
By all accounts, trump is not remotely conservative.
Apparently, this fact doesn’t matter.
This site has degenerated into a ra-ra pep rally where conservative thought is given lip service and nothing more.
I thought Israeli politics were crappy. This is absurd.
