The Electoral College could still stop Trump, even if he wins the popular vote
Washington Post ^ | March 17, 2016 | Derek T. Muller

Donald Trump will be the GOP’s presidential nominee. Within the party, talk of a brokered Republican National Convention or even a supporting a third-party candidate has circulated among those hoping to stop him from becoming the next president, leaving Trump antagonists across the spectrum to ponder whether there’s any fail-safe left, after November, to stop a Trump administration from becoming a reality.

There is. The Electoral College.

Trump will smoke Hillary like a cheap cigar. She has never experienced an opponent who will actually go after her like Trump will.

An interesting comment.

Hillary’s only success has been in carefully controlled cupcake contests in NY State.

And if John-Boy Edwards had used condoms, she would have probably been the third place finisher in the 2008 Dem primary race.

If Trump names a reasonably conservative person as his Veep, someone with fed.gov experience,
*********
You mean someone destroy all his gains after he leaves office- the way Bush Sr. did to Reagan?

It’s weird.

I keep seeing polls that say Hillary crushes Trump, but then you have articles like this that plot ways to steal the Presidency from Trump when he wins.

Like I said, weird.

The Cruz people have a dream - a dream about a non-existent America.

Your arguments are all good, but they are looking for a candidate who can be elected - no, elected in a landslide - in their imaginary country.

"...and so, most likely, we get Madame President...

I don't think so. This election is NOT the typical run-of-the-mill political one. It appears to me to be a tectonic electoral shift similar to the one when Andrew Jackson ran and won is happening. And Trump reminds me a lot of old Andy.

“a free people should have been allowed to secede from the Union just as the colonists desired freedom from England. But, the North just had to have their war.”

There were many attempts at compromise to get the southern states to return to the union. Most northerners tried to avoid the civil war.

Secession was not the decision of a free people. A small group of secessionists got legislatures to vote for secession in late 1860. Many of the votes were close. Many prominent southerners opposed secession.

Jefferson Davis, Judah Benjamin, the Order of the Golden Circle and e few others planned and orchestrated secession.

It turned out to be a disaster for the average southerner.

That is why Lincoln spoke about malice towards none and charity towards all. He realized the average southerner was not responsible for secession and wanted to welcome them back into the union.

Unfortunately, Lincoln was assassinated and the terrible policies of Reconstruction followed the war.

The article recommends that even if Trump wins the vote in their state that legislators choose to award the electors to someone other than Trump. In other words the actual votes mean nothing.

No mention in the article that that's what South Carolina did back in slavery days.

They didn't even bother to hold an actual election. The state legislature did all the voting.

Hard to believe #NeverTrump wants to go down that same road.

Hillary is so weak, she can barely beat a full-on communist in her own party. She has so many issues, Donald is going to have a field day.

Quick! Tell all the Trump haters to get their states to adopt the same electoral vote award system that they use in Maine and Nebraska: one for each congressional district, two for the statewide winner.

The reason the elites are scared is because if Trump is President, much of the graft, corruption, and Treasury looting that has occurred for decades will be exposed in full. People will be going to prison.

The NY elections are what I was thinking of. If she was running against anybody but Trump, she could count on them to be at least polite. I think she could probably beat JEB! or Kasich because they would be too busy getting along to try to beat her.

And we were told to hold our breaths and vote for McCain or Romney for the good of the country and for the good of the party. Now we are told our votes won’t even matter.
