The FReeper Canteen Presents... Happy St Patrick's Day
Canteen Mission Statement
Showing support and boosting the morale of our military and our allies military and the family members of the above. Honoring those who have served before.
St. Patrick's Day is celebrated on March 17, his religious feast day and the anniversary of his death in the fifth century. The Irish have observed this day as a religious holiday for over a thousand years. On St. Patrick's Day, which falls during the Christian season of Lent, Irish families would traditionally attend church in the morning and celebrate in the afternoon. Lenten prohibitions against the consumption of meat were waived and people would dance, drink, and feaston the traditional meal of Irish bacon and cabbage.
Irish Rovers ~ When Irish Eyes Are Smiling
Dominic Behan ~ Erin Go Bragh
Lisa Kelly ~ Carrickfergus
Clancy Brother & Tommy Makem ~ Johnnie I Hardly Knew You
The Dubliners ~ The Rocky Road To Dublin
Today, St. Patrick's Day is celebrated by people of all backgrounds in the United States, Canada, and Australia. Although North America is home to the largest productions, St. Patrick's Day has been celebrated in other locations far from Ireland, including Japan, Singapore, and Russia.
Loreena McKennitt ~ She Moved Through The Fair
El McMeen ~ Danny Boy
Bill Douglas ~ Irish Lullaby
The Wolfe Tones ~ The Wearing Of The Green
The Chieftains ~ An Gaoth Aneas
In modern-day Ireland, St. Patrick's Day has traditionally been a religious occasion. In fact, up until the 1970s, Irish laws mandated that pubs be closed on March 17. Beginning in 1995, however, the Irish government began a national campaign to use St. Patrick's Day as an opportunity to drive tourism and showcase Ireland to the rest of the world.
Last year, close to one million people took part in Ireland 's St. Patrick's Festival in Dublin, a multi-day celebration featuring parades, concerts, outdoor theater productions, and fireworks shows.
Please remember that The Canteen is here to support and entertain our troops and their families, and is family friendly.

Glad you mentioned the pinching. I always forget about that part and get pinched. I rarely wear green. Got a Republican Women’s Group luncheon meeting tomorrow and now have to re-think what I’ll wear so I don’t come home black and blue!

As a rule, Republicans don’t pinch. Only Democrats and Socialists.

A couple of them can be!
I don’t know about the nursing home employees and I’ll be stopping by to visit Hubby’s aunt for a while after the meeting. Then the grocery store and who knows who I’ll run into?
Good night and sleep well. Catch ya on the next go ‘round.

The first thing she hit me with was the tv didn’t work. Great, none of them worked. Mine, the master, came on, but was stuck on a single channel and nothing else worked. Called the cable company....the recording said, “If your tv is stuck on a single channel and nothing else works, unplug the box, replug, and it will reset”. So I did. It took about 10 minutes for all the functions, then check my Mom’s tv, with the same question over and over and over.
Tell me what to do the next time?
With the same answer, the only thing you can do if you don’t have a regular viewing channel, push the “Live TV” button.
This button? Yes that button.
But what do I do next time?
If you don’t have a regular viewing channel, push the “Live TV” button.
This button? Yes that button.
But what do I do next time?
Rinse and repeat......I finally said I have to check the other boxes.
Downstairs had already reset, but I finally unplugged the living room box and it reset.
I need a nap.

When I first read, “The tv didn’t work,” I thought it was going to be another case of her hitting wrong buttons on the remote. Too bad it wasn’t. That would have been an easier fix than what you had to deal with! What a mess! At least it sounds like you got them all working again.

Something had to have happened to the provider during the day, because every caller for tech help got the recording before waiting to talk to a tech guy.
They are all working now. And if it happens again, I know to start with unplugging.

Things do happen on the provider’s end. It’s a shame it had to be such a pain for y’all to get things going again on your ends. Hope it doesn’t happen any more!
I’m out for the night. I know I won’t be able to go to sleep right away but need to try so I can get up in the morning. Yuck! Mornings and ‘vampires’ don’t get along very well. LOL
Good night and sleep well when you get there.
