Now off to the House!
Daaaaang...
Excellent. Would love to see this catch fire.
Will the guv sign if it gets to him?
And this will be legal in every other state, right? After all, 14th Amendment, right?
Last year he said he would have, but that might have also been because he knew it wouldn’t get to his desk. Otter has been lock step with eGOP and NRA who opposed Constitutional Carry in Idaho last year.
Florida killed open carry for CCW permit holders. I’m livid. We were the first state to issue CCW permits, but I’ll be damned if we aren’t one of the last to allow lawful open carry. Unreal.
The NRA opposed this?
Least ways that's my $.02
Idaho has had open carry for as long as I can remember. Idaho currently allows concealed carry without a permit when you are outside city limits. Idaho only requires a permit for concealed carry within city limits. Hopefully this bill will move forward and eliminate that need, as well.
Good news. We had a death star committee here in VA where good gun bills went to die. VCDL was able to convince our House of Delegates of the error of their ways.
That is enough reason for me to head for the state line. I live in Washington State District of Communism, and have been planning a jump to elsewhere for a few years. Idaho is looking mighty fine right about now. Between the State Supreme Court ORDERING the legislature to fund education to the courts specifications of “enough”, the billions wasted on light rail, bike paths in the middle of streets, and a nearly 3 year old tunneling project that has gone 100 feet, why stay? This State has a budget of $45B, up from $450M 35 years ago, but they don’t have enough, there never is enough of our money for them to spend. Add on the violence, every night some gang banger kills another. Some kid 17 year old killed another 17 year old in a drive by. The sentence for the murderer...thats right....17 years.
What is this "allow" crap? The proposed legislation merely removes long-standing infringements of a natural right, infringements that are prohibited by the Constitution, but nevertheless are popular in most states.
Yes last year the NRA opposed it because there was a gun bill the NRA helped write already on the table that tweaked existing concealed carry (inside vs outside city limits) as well as various other thing...more regulations overall.
The Idaho NRA rep even read the opposing bill and gave testimony to the Idaho legislature. In that testimony he was asked directly about Constitutional Carry, and said the NRA would support it but knew nothing about any active pending legislation....which was an absolute lie as the NRA had already made a statement saying they opposed the Constitutional Carry bill in Idaho as it was too vague.
So yes last year the NRA opposed it. This year the NRA-ILA have been keeping tabs on it through press releases but that’s been about it.
The Constitutional Carry bill last year, and this year, were both Idaho resident grass roots efforts completely separate from the NRA.
Thank you for that detailed info.
Yup. The NRA runs classes here that cost $100+ for CCW. It went up the week after I took the class to $120. There were about 30 people in my class.
As always, follow the money.
Wow....here it was just a $20 fee and a test to get mine.
