House Speaker Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) suggested Tuesday night that he could reach for the Republican presidential nomination during a contested convention in Cleveland.

Simple math.
If the remaining delegates are split in the same proportion that the remaining three candidates have already won, then:
Trump finishes with 1264 (more than the 1236 needed)
Cruz finishes with 754
Kasich finishes with 267
Rubio finishes with 172
Carson with 8
Bush with 4
Fiorina, Paul and Huckabee each with 1
If needed, Carson’s delegates would mostly go to Trump.
I project that Trump wins with a small margin, although California (and its 172 winner-take-all delegates) will decide this
“The last time any brokered convention produced a winning nominee was 1932 with Franklin Roosevelt.”
Oh, you mean history repeats: elect a Socialist to screw the ‘unsuspecting’ public?
Yeah, worked out well the last time...for THEM
They do that, and they will cease to exist as a party. Then a SECOND party MUST be formed.
Rubio dropped out. His delegates are now unbounded and can vote for whoever they want at the convention.
Trump should start courting these people. Buying them if necessary.
Nope. Trump and Cruz have already said they will block any rule change that would allow this to happen. they will have direct control over the majority of the delegates.
The Republican nominee will be either Trump or Cruz
Your point is a good one...even though Rubio dropped out, he still has some leverage. Rubio might make a deal for a department position in exchange for his recommendation to his delegates.
I agree. If Cruz finishes behind Trump he’ll probably be interested in cutting a deal for the VP spot.
I’m just not sure if the rules allow this. Cruz would have to transfer his delegates to Trump for the first ballot of the convention.
“If Cruz wants to keep his anti-establishment cred, he should form a unity ticket with Trump to defeat the GOP-e.”
You are exactly right. That is what Trump and Cruz will do if the backstabbers in the GOPe try to steal the nomination. In the end, I think calmer heads will prevail and they will nominate whoever has the most delegates.
Did Roosevelt have the most delegates when they started the Democratic convention in 1932?
If this lazy piece of chit Paul Rino wanted to be president, he should have run in the primaries, participated in all the debates, and traveled all over America holding rallies....you know, EARNED the right to be a presidential candidate!
If this happens, Paul Ryno’s bearded mug will be the symbol forever associated with the day the Republican Party was consigned to the ash heap of history.
And National Review is the Propaganda Flügel for the GOPe and the Blaze and Conservative review are the Feld allgemein for Cruz.
It is clear as day - the current plot by the GOPe is Paul Ryan. They will fail. Then they will do anything to help Hillary win.
It is all about amnesty and cheap labor.
Nominating Paul Ryan would be the biggest mistake the Republican Establishment low life vermin could do. Ryan and the Establiahment would destroy the GOP forever as a viaable political party!!! Ryan is part and parcel of the problem!!!
The Stupid Party has now become the Delusional Party!
Yes. By far. The deal was first place (Roosevelt) and third place (Garner) and minor candidate delegates, against second place (Smith).
Dems still required two-thirds then, not just a majority. Roosevelt had an easy majority to start.
Just because you were his VP and just because your insider establishment colleagues made you speaker, that does not mean the people are clamoring for you to pick up the gauntlet.
In other words, in plain English: stay with your day job.
The people spoke in 2010 and again in 2014 and you and your colleagues were tone deaf. Pushing through a budget that give Obama everything he wanted did not endear you to the populace.
