CHICAGO (Reuters) - U.S. Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump on Saturday blamed organized "thugs" for protests that shut down his Chicago rally and said the incident had "energized America."
Trump, who will be at a campaign rally in Dayton, Ohio, on Saturday, canceled the Chicago event on Friday after it turned chaotic, with scuffles breaking out between protesters and backers of the real estate magnate.
"The organized group of people, many of them thugs, who shut down our First Amendment rights in Chicago, have totally energized America!" Trump said on Twitter.
The First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution protects freedom of speech and assembly. The Chicago rally came ahead of five primary elections on Tuesday, including contests in Ohio and Illinois.

Apparently it is you that has a problem comprehending what Cruz said.
Wow. Really?
Well, welcome to the former Cruz supporters club. Too many of us here. Gave money and support and got shafted.
come on man.
he basically said white conservative folk don’t have a right to defend themselves.
and he lied. Trump didn’t make statements provoking violence.
I was near the edge after the NY comments anyway.
My interpretation of Cruz’s statement: “The culture today is so bad and rape is inexcusable. But, that woman should have known that wearing a skimpy outfit would incur this sorry of response. She should take some responsibility for her rape.”
“Protesters doing what they are paid to do (SEIU, MoveOn, etc.) are not the problem.”........
They may not be the total problem but they damn sure are a part of it. You didn’t see ME protesting someones free speech.
I think that stupid protestor event will get Trump elected, the people have had enough of the lefts bullshit. Not only the “left” but the rinos as well, Crus/Rubio and Kasich all indirectly added their names to Trumps ballot by adding their BS suggesting it was Trumps fault.
“Compuserve is still around??”
I have clients who still actually PAY compuserve for email service!
“Cruz blamed the protesters before Trump blamed them.”
Shall we get to the TRUTH of the matter? Cruz Blames Trump (35,200,000 hits):
https://www.google.com/search?q=cruz+blames+trump&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8
Nope.
So you are relying on Google and the MSM for your political beliefs? LOL at you.
“Cruz has lost 250,000 Twitter followers since last nigh, over 20% of his followers. He had about 1.2M and is down to 923,500 and dropping. That is stunning.”
OMG, that IS stunning.
And other posters here are saying Cruz’s FB page is being slammed with negative comments.
Cruz really DID sink his own ship.
Ted, go screw yourself.
L
The “But” negates EVERYTHING said prior to it’s usage. That’s what “but” does. So look at the part of the statement AFTER the “but”, that’s the meaningful part.
If Cruz had used “Period.” instead of “But ...”, THEN and ONLY THEN would Cruz had been laying the blame at the feet of the anti-free-speech leftist-anarchist mob. There’s really no other way to spin it.
“You are wrong about that. Totally wrong.”
You are living by that river in Egypt. De-Nile.
Translation: I have caved because I fear for my life.
“So you are relying on Google and the MSM for your political beliefs?”
Nope. relying on the information contained in the 33,000,000 articles google turned up.
Nope. You are wrong. Even if you were not, you are then not following your own advice and you are intentionally not reading exactly what he said after the but.
After the but he did not blame Trump for the violent protesters in Chicago. He said Trump created the environment that led to his supporters beating protesters.
Then he said it was the beatings of those protesters that allowed the Chicago protesters to think they should protest violently.
LOL. You are saying the same thing. Giggle.
Cruz says, When the candidate urges supporters to engage in physical violence, to punch people in the face, the predictable consequence of that is that is escalates.First of all dimwit no one "urged" anyone to do anything of the sort.
And the way some women who've been raped dress...well, it's their own fault, what do they expect? < /sarcasm>
