Senator Ted Cruz of Texas said on Friday that Donald J. Trump bore responsibility for creating an environment that encourages violence at his events.
Speaking to reporters at a local Republican dinner outside Chicago, where Mr. Trump had just canceled a rally amid fierce confrontations between his supporters and protesters, Mr. Cruz began by saying that the protesters who took violence into their own hands were responsible for the episode.
But in any campaign, responsibility starts at the top, Mr. Cruz continued. And when you have a campaign that disrespects the voters, when you have a campaign that affirmatively encourages violence, when you have a campaign that is facing allegations of physical violence against members of the press, you create an environment that only encourages this sort of nasty discourse.
Mr. Cruz invoked the protests and violent police run-ins at the 1968 Democratic National Convention in Chicago, and predicted that future skirmishes were likely.
When the candidate urges supporters to engage in physical violence, to punch people in the face, the predictable consequence of that is that it escalates, Mr. Cruz said. And today is unlikely to be the last such instance.

When controlling mob behavior, you always focus on the leader of the mob behavior.
In this case, it should be focused on the leadership of Move-on or whomever directed the protests.
Cruz does make a sound point regarding allegiance. Our allegiance is to the Constitution and the nation, not to a monarchy.
I don’t fault Cruz for his attack. I fault him for not exercising wherewithal to realize the focus of attack shouldn’t be Trump, but those who are enemies of the Constitution.
Are you huffing paint?
I have seen this same reaction from people who were on the fence about Cruz.
“Cruz does make a sound point regarding allegiance. Our allegiance is to the Constitution...”
Precisely where his wasn’t last night.
Hillary’s plan has worked. Bringing her friend Trump into this campaign was a brilliant move. Now she gets to choose the next 5 SCOTUS vacancies.
“Congratulations on moving into bed with Soros and Sanders and BlackLivesMatter. You truly should be ashamed, but I am glad Trump has been the force to push all you GOPe types out into the open. Always helps to know the players. Clearly Cruz is on that team as well.
And, pal, YOU are the one reaping what you sow. Cowardice, betrayal, condemning America to third class status-thats your legacy, not Trumps.”

LOL...having a hard time getting up off the floor...your comments so hurtful...
Well LS, I’ll call you Mr. D! You are hallucinating if you think myself and other Cruz supporters are “in bed” with Soros, Sanders, and BLM...Hillary might have been fun in her younger days, ;-) (but, I digress)...
For me, this crowd is the scum of the earth!
OTOH, IMHO Trump is a self-absorbed PIG of a man, who has shown during his life that it’s all about “the Donald”; only an egotistical A-hole can embrace such a moniker!
This PT Barnum incarnate is playing all his supporters for fools. How can any thinking conservative support someone like Trump who was a life-long Liberal Democrat until 18 months ago? The Donald has been donating to Liberal causes and Liberal Democrat politicians just like Soros for decades...he is part of the “establishment”...wake up!
And, I’m the one in bed with Soros??? For your assignment, go to your bathroom and look in the mirror!
Ted had two choices.
Support Trumps right to speak
Or support the Thugs.
He chose the thugs by attacking Trump.
That makes him a BLM supporter.
This will not work out well for Cruz.
Typical of the Trump CDSers on this thread, you are carefully avoiding Trumps repeated statements that encouraged and condoned physically assaulting protesters. I can understand why you avoid it, because it is indefensible.
This was an organized attack by communists and your fellow conservatives were attacked last night in Chicago . Or are you a Democrat? All conservatives should be defending our right to freely assemble. Instead you try to score cheap political points on Trump. The cult of Cruzman Sachs is truly pathetic. I do not know who the next POTUS will be but I do know it won’t be Cruz.
Welcome to Trump Train ! Pleaee fasten your seatbelt it's going to be a bumpy ride.
Objectively, yes.
"A campaign that disrespects the voters?" He's entitled to his opinion, but it's no more than that.
"Affirmatively encourages violence?" No, encourages responding to it...never initiating it.
"Allegations of physical violence against members of the press?" It appears they were empty allegations made for political effect.
That whole statement was a nothing burger made for political gain. I expected better from Cruz.
I disagree, though I can find fault in both of them and strong points in both.
That is why he made big productions on things like the budget that he knew would never prevail on and secretly supported others like fast track authority for Obama.
This is an old Rino trick and it is a shame that so may conservatives still fall for it.
You know good and well you are misrepresenting this quote. You're leaving out the first part where Trump said, "They say I could shoot......etc."
"I'd like to punch that guy in the face."
It's been shown to you on this thread that this was in response to a large protester at a Trump rally throwing punches at Trump supporters! Let's not defend ourselves, right, Charles?
"I'll pay the legal bills if you go after that guy."
Again, it's been proven on this thread what the actual quote is. Trump had just had a tomato thrown at him and he said this if rally supporters saw any others throwing tomatoes.
And then, surprise, one of his rally-goers punches a protester in the face.
I repeat, a 78 year old man was sick of the rally he attended being interrupted by protesters and he swung. He's being prosecuted not condoned. It was the action of one person.
Which, in turn, led to a predictable situation like last night.
You saw that Bill Ayers was there last night, right? You know that ANSWER and BLM were also in on it last night, right? Cindy Sheehan also managed to get some airtime on this. How, exactly, is Trump responsible for Bill Ayers actions?
Do you not think that they have their own agenda and will turn this all on Cruz if he somehow ends up being the nominee? They are protesting anyone that may stop Hillary or Bernie.
Cruz just condoned Ayers, ANSWER, BLM, and Cindy Sheehan! Wake up, Charles, Cruz is an opportunist that desperately wants to be accepted to the 'in-crowd' of the GOPe.
Yes!!!
Yeah, his; "Don't hurt em" comments really incite violence.
It is what Trump is saying that often causes the liberals to come out of the woodwork.
OF course everyone should have freedom of speech. EVERYONE! .. but sometimes what we say pokes the bear.
I have often heard that it is not what we say but HOW we say it that makes a difference.
There is nothing wrong with being forceful in one's words, much the same as the day 911 occurred. Then President Bush went on the airwaves with strong condemnation for the act , but was Presidential in doing so...
It’s inescapable now. You and Cruzer are in bed with BLM.
As W said after 9/11, you’re either with us or with the terrorists. You’re either with Trump on this or you’re with BLM. Not a hard choice. but you’ve made it.
...This PT Barnum incarnate is playing all his supporters for fools. How can any thinking conservative support someone like Trump who was a life-long Liberal Democrat until 18 months ago? The Donald has been donating to Liberal causes and Liberal Democrat politicians just like Soros for decades...he is part of the establishment...wake up!...
You and Cruz and the rest of his supporters will repeat this endlessly. That shows a real lack of integrity and lack of respect for honesty on your part. You all must be terrified that if Trump is elected many of your corrupt representatives and senators will be out of a job.
It’s so easy for me to identify those who have the interests of the uni-party and the establishment first before America. You all spout the same lies.
So I can 't remember who does the GOPe bushies want us to vote for in Ohio and Florida?
