Donald Trump brought a surprise to Thursday night's debatean endorsement from former presidential rival Ben Carson.
The New York billionaire was asked by moderator Jake Tapper what his specific issues were with Common Core when he pivoted to his endorsement.
I was with Dr. Carson today, whos endorsing me by the way tomorrow morning, and we spoke for over an hour on education, Trump said. He wants a lot of different things that are terrific.
Im gonna have Ben very much involved with education, Trump said.

[And the personal attacks and hysteric nastiness from the Religious Conservatives]
CARSON is a surgeon. He has abilities, but Sect. of Education is NOT one of them. Author and American Historian such as William Federer would be a much better choice.
We don’t need to fill the slots with ‘also rans.’
Ha, ha, sheese, just look at yourself. I am no troll you fool. I am glad I do not have that many years left to listen to idiots like you. This country is finished, there is no making it great again with moronic voters like you and your fellow trumpanzees.
Baloney! The body language tells the true story. Cruz is an egotistical nitwit.
What bombshell? It has been talked about all day yesterday.
More evidence that Dr. Ben Carson is not equipped to be President of the United States.
Very nice. He probably wanted to wait until today, but news leaked out yesterday.
The "leak" was designed to demoralize his opponents just before they walked out on the stage, and also to dominate "pre-debate" coverage.
If he had wanted a true surprise, there would have been one. Just like there was with the Christie endorsement.
Pyramids as granaries is a bit of a stretch, but how do you feel about Surgeon General?
I’m inclined to believe you, but could you describe the body language that you are observing that tells you the true story.
The sense of companionship between the two men is quite evident. While the others shoved and pushed their way past Carson, Trump stopped and spoke to him, waiting beside him. It was a gracious gesture clearly showing the goodness of Trump compared to the crassness of the others.
Actually, I do not happen to think that pyramids as graineries are that much of a stretch. It has been shown that pyramids have an effect on freshness of milk. Don’t you remember the Tetrapac, still in use widely in Europe?
I have read a great deal about pyramids in Egypt, and never once heard a suggestion that they were used for graineries. The space inside is much too inefficiently small for grain storage, they were filled with burial goods for the occupant (before looted by grave robbers), information about the occupant was clearly inscribed on the interior walls, and they were mostly much to far away to be of any use as storage for an urban location.
Pyramids don’t sharpen razor blades, or keep food fresh. And no, the pyramids were not used as granaries. Of course, none of that means much regarding Carson’s fitness for office — his biggest problem has been in hiring the wrong people to run his campaign.
