Looks like the city is spoiling for a new fight with restaurateurs: A bill being introduced today by Brooklyn city council member Inez Barron would force them to warn customers that foods with too much sugar and carbs are dangerous to people with diabetes.
If its passed, restaurants would be required to hang a poster created by the Department of Health that spells out the risks of excessive sugar and other carbohydrate intake for diabetic and pre-diabetic individuals.
Barron says the city has an obligation to provide consumers with this information just like it has with calorie counts.

God, I’m so glad I live out in the country away from busybody Marxists.
Yeah... THAT’LL do the trick.
More than once I have avoided travel into NYC so as not to spend as much as a farthing in this once-great-city.
How about warning people about taking too large bites? or not chewing 30 times?
...and the danger of getting poked by your fork?
The possibilities are endless.
You have given the nanny staters some good ideas.....
As if people who've been diagnosed with diabetes don't already know that.
This is what lawmakers think is important....really?...
I was walking across Lexington Avenue today and when I got across, I almost tripped on the sidewalk curbing. I would like to propose that NYC puts signs on every single street corner that says “Beware of curbing.”
Typical useless, emotive, nanny state BS from New York State
Our county here in NY State wants to ban cigarettes being sold at businesses that are also pharmacies. The justification? Public health of course, and “we don’t want children associating cigarettes with medicine.”
Yes, cigarettes are bad, but this nit-picking, slow nanny-state creep is even worse.
Bloomberg’s food police at it again. Typical liberalism that says libs can run our lives, protect ourself and families, and make decisions for us better than we can ourselves.
The other day I noticed that some poor schmuck had won a trip to NYC instead of a trip to Hawaii, Caribbean, or other wonderful place on the Wheel of Fortune.....sounds like a trip of self preservation rather than a vacation.
How about putting signs of the risk of decapitation or rape, outside of every mosque?
#16 “How about putting signs of the risk of decapitation or rape, outside of every mosque?”
Makes much more sense to me...
We eat pretty much low carb...but when we go out sometimes we don’t care....sheesh...control freaks. I’d rather politicians had to wear their lobbyist “sponsors” on their sleeves.
Warning: This Establishment Serves Food Which Some Government Prick Will Have A Pickle Over. So, just suck it up...as long as it’s not more than a 16 oz. soda.
If they didn’t dwell on useless stuff like this they would have to address the real issues, and that is too much like work.
They should just post signs saying “food is known to cause obesity, disease, and death” sort of what California does with labeling everything “Known to cause cancer”.
