Utah Sen. Mike Lee plans to endorse Ted Cruz Thursday, making him the first U.S. senator to back the Texas senator's presidential bid, sources told POLITICO.
In a blow to Marco Rubio, whose campaign is on life support as he seeks to avoid a knock-out blow in his home state Tuesday, Lee is expected to make the announcement in Rubios hometown of Miami ahead of Thursday nights GOP debate.
-snip-
Lee is close with both senators, and he had resisted jumping into the race and potentially alienating one of them. He sat down with Rand Paul, Rubio and Cruz as the presidential campaign got underway one year ago and told them: Look: Im in an awkward spot because Im really close to all three of you guys.
One of the weirdest things that can happen to a person is to have his three favorite co-workers all running for president of the United States at one time, Lee said during a December interview. Its just weird.
But that neutrality waned as Trump rose and Rubio faltered. With crucial primary votes in just five days, the chairman of the Senate GOPs conservative Steering Committee still has a chance to make a difference in the race.
Cruz's campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Lee's office declined to comment.

I wonder what your reaction would be if the Bush family just swarmed around Trump.
It's Chris CHRISTIE, and to think Cruz insulted the intelligence of Trump voters. If you are going to be an insulting douche, get the spelling of the guys name right.
Cruz’s eligibility for the presidency has been challenged in a few courts all over the country. He currently has a team of Harvard trained lawyers to convince whatever judge that’s he’s eligible to run for president. If Cruz was so certain that he was a US natural born citizen he would not have a dream team of Harvard lawyers arguing his case for him. His records remain sealed. Who does that sound like?
I can see the team of legal defense/offense, but the documents should be available to anyone.
Yes, we all know who it sounds like.
One more issue with this guy.
Mike Lee was claimed to be an Constitutional Originalist. Even Cruz' and Obama's constitutional law professor, Larry Tribe, points out Cruz' hypocrisy. Cruz and Lee should both review Minor v. Happersett, 88 U.S. 162, (1875):
The Constitution does not, in words, say who shall be natural-born citizens. Resort must be had elsewhere to ascertain that. At common-law, with the nomenclature of which the framers of the Constitution were familiar, it was never doubted that all children born in a country of parents who were its citizens became themselves, upon their birth, citizens also. These were natives, or natural-born citizens, as distinguished from aliens or foreigners."low information Senators" Cruz and Lee might read the decision based upon the naturalization amendment, the 14th, that made Cruz, Rubio, Jindal and Haley naturalized citizens because they were born on our soil. Words mean things Senator Cruz and Senator Lee. Our constitution requires natural born citizens for just our president and vice presidents. Wong Kim Ark, born in San Francisco to "Domiciled" parents, parents who were subjects of China,, parents who were not U.S. citizens but acted as if they were, and probably would have naturalized if China permitted dual citizens, and lived under our protection, were made "Citizens", not natural born citizens. Wong Kim Ark 169 U.S. 649, (1898) applies exactly to Rubio, Jindal, and Haley who were born on our soil to aliens. Ted Cruz wasn't born on our soil, nor was he born to parents who were citizens. Cruz was made a citizen at birth by a 1934 interpretation of the naturalization amendment that obviated the need to file naturalization papers for a foreign-born child whose mother was a citizen.
No Not Lee, Romney’s Mormon mafia was/is Jason Chafist
I am genuinely sorry to hear that. That is quite a story.
I have nothing against Mike Lee. To be elected and re-elected some conservatives have two choices, either to be cowed and marginalized, or to break out early like Rubio and Cruz and run wide open for the presidency, just to get the monkey off their back.
Unfortunately, Mike was outpaced by Cruz.
Lee is not associated with the globalists in any manner, even to tease their interest and consideration, particularly the wifey thing comes to mind. Heidi was able to grease some skids for “utterly Ted” long ago, and Ted knew how to capitalize. He turned around and rode the back of first the Bush machine and then pivoted and mounted the Tea Party, riding that movement all the way to the US Senate. Slick as wet ice.
Lee was/is an original. Ted is positively serpentine.
Cruz allowing Jeb to snuggle up is for CASH and CASH only.
I view it like keeping your enemies closer.
Cruz is well aware of his enemies.
If Cruz get’s a chance to take a hunk of cash flesh out of them, why not.
You don’t need to have meetings with Rubio involved if it’s just campaign cash.
“Utah Sen. Mike LeeRomneys Mormon mafia.”
100% rating as a Conservative. Highest in the Senate. Guess he is a RINO also, next to Cruz who only has a 97% rating.

Goes to show what a crock those ratings are.
Headline writers suck these days
Then you are waaaay over stressed. Little things shouldn’t get your host thst easily
I think this is the third or fourth person from Cruz’s college days that has an issue with him (no matter who is endorsing).

Hmm, not working. will have to try that again.
Fear? They think he is a joke. They watch him stumble and read green eggs and ham knowing he will finish soon enough and when he finishes, they vote for the thing he was filibuster on. They are far from fearing him.
I will support either Trump or Cruz as the nominee, and hopefully you will do the same. Many people I respect are backing Cruz, not least of which is Mark Levin, and he’s no lightweight. Neither is Cruz, really.
trumps endorsement wagon trumps cruz so far
But Lee is a good guy no doubt....Teds ally in the austere body
I don’t know if I have dedication standards that Cruz expects. I am not a voter Ted is after or wants.
