Cruz to land first Senate endorsement: Mike Lee
Politico ^ | 03/10/16 | Katie Glueck and Burgess Everett

Utah Sen. Mike Lee plans to endorse Ted Cruz Thursday, making him the first U.S. senator to back the Texas senator's presidential bid, sources told POLITICO.

In a blow to Marco Rubio, whose campaign is on life support as he seeks to avoid a knock-out blow in his home state Tuesday, Lee is expected to make the announcement in Rubio’s hometown of Miami ahead of Thursday night’s GOP debate.

-snip-

Lee is close with both senators, and he had resisted jumping into the race and potentially alienating one of them. He sat down with Rand Paul, Rubio and Cruz as the presidential campaign got underway one year ago and told them: “Look: I’m in an awkward spot because I’m really close to all three of you guys.”

“One of the weirdest things that can happen to a person is to have his three favorite co-workers all running for president of the United States at one time,” Lee said during a December interview. “It’s just weird.”

But that neutrality waned as Trump rose and Rubio faltered. With crucial primary votes in just five days, the chairman of the Senate GOP’s conservative Steering Committee still has a chance to make a difference in the race.

Cruz's campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Lee's office declined to comment.

I’m open to opposing thoughts on this, so don’t take offense.

It seems to me this is no different than the Republican or Democrat parties saying they’ll help like minded people with support or funds to get elected.

I don’t necessarily see this as a bad thing.

I’m open to any explanations that reveal it to be different and thus somehow sinister.

Tell me what you’ve figured out. What do you know about the Bush’s and Cruz? My take its about $ which will be needed to campaign. I cannot begin to speculate about the deals being cut. But I do know that the Bush’s and their country club backers hate Trump more than Cruz and that fact in itself gives Cruz bargaining power.

If the Bush folks will back Cruz, and Cruz is comfortable taking Bush support, doesn’t that at least cause you to wonder just how much in common they have?

I’m only concerned about what Cruz will give away in terms of policy and appointments

Rafael Edward "Ted" Cruz is an American politician and the junior United States Senator from Texas. He is a candidate for the Republican nomination for President of the United States in the 2016 election. Wikipedia Born: December 22, 1970 (age 45), Calgary, Canada Nationality: American Height: 5′ 8″ Spouse: Heidi Cruz (m. 2001) Parents: Rafael Cruz, Eleanor Darragh. Rubio is actually 5-10, but looks shorter than 5-8 Rafael on a stage. As a matter of fact Rafael looks almost as tall as 6-2 Donald Trump, who's a half a foot taller than he is. The reason? He wears shoes with 4-5 heels on them. When he's on the stump in his cowboy clothes he always wears boots with these 4-5 inch heels. Talk about an inferiority complex.

Whole hell of lot better than being endorsed by Chris Christy?

Or in the Trumpanzee eyes, probably not.

Chris is a STRONG Conservative like Trump. /sarc

Sorry to see it. Appears Mike Lee is just another one of the ESTABLISHMENT. Jeff Sessions is worth ten of Lee.

LOL.. yall are funny.. If a person doesn’t support Trump they are automatically bad.

I still think Sessions is a good man, and Palin has done some great things as well. I don’t understand their reasoning in supporting Trump, but that is their decision not mine.

While I agree that Cruz' move to induct Neal Bush was politically brain dead, if his goal was to unify the Party, should he specifically exclude Neal Bush from helping out?

Not sure if excluding or including would have an impact in my opinion. Now having Chris Christy endorse you or having Mike Lee endorse you speaks loads of differences to me.

I would rather have a conservative that has tried to de-fund Obamacare and filibuster a vote then a con artist like Christy who shakes hands with a traitor like Obama.

But birds of a feather usually flock together.

http://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2016/02/report-ted-cruz-entered-us-illegally-1974/

“Rafael Edward “Ted” Cruz was born in Calgary, Alberta, Canada on December 22, 1970 and remained a Canadian citizen until he officially renounced it on May 14, 2014, eighteen months after taking the oath of office as a U.S. Senator.”

“...according to the Canadian Citizenship Act of 1946, also referred to as the “Act of 1947,” Canada did not allow dual citizenship in 1970. The parents would have had to choose at that time between U.S. and Canadian citizenship. Ted Cruz did not renounce his Canadian citizenship until 2014. Was that the choice originally made?

Second, no CRBA has been released that would verify that Ted Cruz was registered as a U.S. citizen at birth.

It has been reported that the then nearly four-year-old Ted Cruz flew to the U.S. from Calgary, Alberta, Canada in 1974.

Ted Cruz could not have entered the U.S. legally without a CRBA or a U.S. passport, the latter of which was not obtained until 1986.

If Ted Cruz was registered as a U.S. citizen at birth, as his spokeswoman claims, then the CRBA must be released. Otherwise, one could conclude that Cruz came to the U.S. as a Canadian citizen, perhaps on a tourist visa or, possibly, remained in the U.S. as an illegal immigrant.

It is the responsibility of the candidate for the Presidency, not ordinary citizens, to prove that he or she is eligible for the highest office in the land. Voters deserve clarification.”

I’m not blaming Cruz for Megan’s support.

I’m just glad she’s not supporting Trump.

As for Chris Christy, Trump welcomed his support to obtain his supporters and their votes. I don’t see anything wrong with that.

I don’t like Christy. Frankly, I don’t want him on Trump’s team.

And it would be ridiculous for Cruz to turn down any support from any official whether they are considered “establishment” by Trump supporters or not.

That would not be something I would like to read if I were a Cruz supporter.

If that is an accurate presentation, it’s very troubling with regard to Ted’s claim he is a citizen.

I’m not a lawyer. I don’t know the ins and outs of this.

I have kidded about it on the forum for push-back, but I don’t know his status. Each side makes some good points on the issue.

It should be resolved. And this line of reasoning should be addressed. It looks like a fairly straight up argument.

First senator’s endorsement for Cruz—headline brevity, not a lie, in this case
