Utah Sen. Mike Lee plans to endorse Ted Cruz Thursday, making him the first U.S. senator to back the Texas senator's presidential bid, sources told POLITICO.
In a blow to Marco Rubio, whose campaign is on life support as he seeks to avoid a knock-out blow in his home state Tuesday, Lee is expected to make the announcement in Rubios hometown of Miami ahead of Thursday nights GOP debate.
-snip-
Lee is close with both senators, and he had resisted jumping into the race and potentially alienating one of them. He sat down with Rand Paul, Rubio and Cruz as the presidential campaign got underway one year ago and told them: Look: Im in an awkward spot because Im really close to all three of you guys.
One of the weirdest things that can happen to a person is to have his three favorite co-workers all running for president of the United States at one time, Lee said during a December interview. Its just weird.
But that neutrality waned as Trump rose and Rubio faltered. With crucial primary votes in just five days, the chairman of the Senate GOPs conservative Steering Committee still has a chance to make a difference in the race.
Cruz's campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Lee's office declined to comment.

After Jeb and Neal, who cares.
Who could top them?
It makes sense.
Looks like Bishop Romney gave the all clear.
1 out of 98 isn’t too bad. Popular guy, that Cruz.
Better to be feared than liked.
It’s comments like that that make it hard for clear thinking conservatives to believe a thing Trumpophiles say.
Don’t forget stabby!!
Mike Lee already sees the= writing on the wall of Cruz’s eventual demise, so he’s trying to soften the blow for his pal....
So shorty found someone willing to step up to the plate for him?
Meanwhile, Ted looks so presidential here. In fact, he looks like a clone of Grandpa Munster - Lord, he is one ugly man.

First senate endorsement FOR HIM. A Senator.
Texas did not vote Cruz in to go to Washington to make friends.
Texans voted for go to Washington to protect and defend the constitution.
K Street hates his devotion.
Poor Mike.
How about Duke, Farrakhan, Carter & Reich?
While I agree that Cruz' move to induct Neal Bush was politically brain dead, if his goal was to unify the Party, should he specifically exclude Neal Bush from helping out?
Utah Sen. Mike Lee—————Romney’s Mormon mafia.
Brilliant on topic retort.
makes sense to me.
