Utah Sen. Mike Lee plans to endorse Ted Cruz Thursday, making him the first U.S. senator to back the Texas senator's presidential bid, sources told POLITICO.
In a blow to Marco Rubio, whose campaign is on life support as he seeks to avoid a knock-out blow in his home state Tuesday, Lee is expected to make the announcement in Rubios hometown of Miami ahead of Thursday nights GOP debate.
-snip-
Lee is close with both senators, and he had resisted jumping into the race and potentially alienating one of them. He sat down with Rand Paul, Rubio and Cruz as the presidential campaign got underway one year ago and told them: Look: Im in an awkward spot because Im really close to all three of you guys.
One of the weirdest things that can happen to a person is to have his three favorite co-workers all running for president of the United States at one time, Lee said during a December interview. Its just weird.
But that neutrality waned as Trump rose and Rubio faltered. With crucial primary votes in just five days, the chairman of the Senate GOPs conservative Steering Committee still has a chance to make a difference in the race.
Cruz's campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Lee's office declined to comment.

“Its comments like that that make it hard for clear thinking conservatives to believe a thing Trumpophiles say.”
I know. Doughty always hits below the belt with that nasty truth and accuracy stuff. It’s gotta be a pain.
Worse, follow the gazillion dollar establishment funding the ads against TRUMP, to grease the path for the short guy with the silver tongue.
TRUMP is dreaded around the globe.
Nobody dreads Cruz but his friends.
LOL

Well, the Bushes and Mitt Romney are popular in Washington D.C. Come on, is that really your measuring gauge??
Not bad for Cruz. Too bad it’s overshadowed by taking a bunch of Bush people onto his campaign team.
More like 1 out of 12— the number of solid principled conservatives serving in the U.S. Senate.
Then why do you Trump trolls hop on every Cruz thread to spread your nastiness?
Smells like fear to me.
Really? A Trump supporter attacking Cruz’s appearance?
WTF is that thing on top of Trumps head?
Headline is alie
Jeff Sessions is a sitting senator and endorsed trump
Even worse is not be feared or liked.
Jeff Sessions was first and endorsed trump
Exactly,......and it’s endless on FR.
“I know. Doughty always hits below the belt with that nasty truth and accuracy stuff. Its gotta be a pain.”
Doughty: “ You can’t HANDLE the truth!! “
Sen. Jeff Flake, AZ “ I’m a conservative! A MORMON (open borders) conservative! “
Cruz: “ I’m a conservative. A Goldman Sachs conservative! “
LOL... HIS FIRST... man...
CRUZ TO LOSE DP0622 ENDORSEMENT UNLESS HE COMES UP WITH A GREAT REASON FOR VISITING WITH JEB!
Oh puhleeez. At least it was amusing. The comments made about Sessions when he endorsed Trump were disgusting
I understand that’s why Texas voted for him for Senate, but who Texas voted for and who Cruz is are two entirely different things. If the Cruz Legend isn’t in fact true, then his whole candidacy falls apart. So, the Cruzers hold fast to their belief that he isn’t actually a product of Bush, Inc.
Comments like yours cause Trump supporters to want to ignore comments from Cruz supporters. Obviously you think that it is impossible for Trump supporters to be clear thinking conservatives. Mike Lee is entitled to support any Republican candidate he chooses. He is one of the good guys and I’m not inclined to criticize him or question his motives. He and Cruz have been on the same side on most issues in the Senate, so his endorsement makes sense. On the other hand, endorsements usually only influence weak thinkers or the genuinely undecided - so I generally ignore endorsements by politicians (good guys or bad guys).
Facts?.....You’re confusing that with mindless snark which is about all Trumpophiles have in their arsenal to build up a candidate who has virtually no conservative bonafides.
But, go ahead, knock yourself out. I have animosity toward no one on this forum.
What the heck was that?
