Utah Sen. Mike Lee plans to endorse Ted Cruz Thursday, making him the first U.S. senator to back the Texas senator's presidential bid, sources told POLITICO.
In a blow to Marco Rubio, whose campaign is on life support as he seeks to avoid a knock-out blow in his home state Tuesday, Lee is expected to make the announcement in Rubios hometown of Miami ahead of Thursday nights GOP debate.
-snip-
Lee is close with both senators, and he had resisted jumping into the race and potentially alienating one of them. He sat down with Rand Paul, Rubio and Cruz as the presidential campaign got underway one year ago and told them: Look: Im in an awkward spot because Im really close to all three of you guys.
One of the weirdest things that can happen to a person is to have his three favorite co-workers all running for president of the United States at one time, Lee said during a December interview. Its just weird.
But that neutrality waned as Trump rose and Rubio faltered. With crucial primary votes in just five days, the chairman of the Senate GOPs conservative Steering Committee still has a chance to make a difference in the race.
Cruz's campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Lee's office declined to comment.

Good get for Cruz. Dont see how it expands anything for him though.
I watched a short thirty second spot. Was that it?
OK
I don’t get it. Did Lee or didn’t Lee?
I saw Mike Lee there too...
Ted, Mario, Mike Lee...
Yes, I saw it.
Explain the quid pro quo to me...
I must not be seeing something there that is setting other folks off.
There’s an advertisement that jumps into the middle of it when I watch it.
Explain what you’re addressing if you wouldn’t mind.
Oh.
I just meant IS Lee endorsing or not? That’s all.
Apologies.
Is Lee likely to lose to a Democrat in November?
Look, perhaps I’m obtuse, but I don’t see much here more than a spot to get folks to side up with Club for Growth.
I don’t follow Club for Growth, so perhaps that’s the problem.
Explain to me what you see is wrong here.
That way I can address it.
How much did jeb (exclamation point) pay lee to endorse cruz?
We’re talking endorsements here...Mike Lee is one of the highest rated conservatives in the senate...if you remember what a conservative is...
Who did Jeb endorse?

Does Mike know he is endorsing Ted?
I think he endorsed Cruz this morning.
He seems to be hawking Club for Growth here.
I wasn’t trying to be critical with my post just now.
:)
The message that Club for Growth is simply “Join our Team” we get you elected.
Follow our principles and we will give you financial support to win your election.
That is by definition:
Quid pro quo (”something for something” or “this for that” in Latin) means an exchange of goods or services, where one transfer is contingent upon the other.
One can also say, Club for Growth will fund opposition to the candidate you are running against.
Example of Quid Pro Quo
“Endorse Donald Trump and you might just lose your backing.”

What happened to those four senators who were supposed to endorse Cruz? This article says Lee is the first.
No worries.
I am just getting cynical about all these people.
Mike Lee had to get his marching orders from Club for Growth, subject to the Utah delegation.
Lee had to wait until the Utah folks had ruled out Marco Rubio.
This is independent verification that Marco is out, absolutely 100%.
A little anecdote about Mike Lee.
Mike Lee attended an event here in Utah where Mitt Romney was the guest of honor during the 2012 election. As Mitt went down the greeting line, when he got to Mike Lee, he refused to shake his hand and gave him a death stare snub and continued down the line leaving Mike Lee’s hand outstretched and Lee exposed as the “guy on the outs” in front of an audience including many dignitaries.
Later on, I got a call from the former governor of Utah to go to a private dinner party for the purpose of changing our voting system in Utah primary from caucus to election which would have meant the Northern part of the state would roll over Southern Utah. We believe the real purpose was to get rid of Mike Lee.
My point in all of this is that Mike Lee entered politics as a good guy, but has been beaten down by the whole situation in Utah.
Unless you are very independent minded, Utah if very clannish. The rebukes are sharp here.
