A little anecdote about Mike Lee.

Mike Lee attended an event here in Utah where Mitt Romney was the guest of honor during the 2012 election. As Mitt went down the greeting line, when he got to Mike Lee, he refused to shake his hand and gave him a death stare snub and continued down the line leaving Mike Lee’s hand outstretched and Lee exposed as the “guy on the outs” in front of an audience including many dignitaries.

Later on, I got a call from the former governor of Utah to go to a private dinner party for the purpose of changing our voting system in Utah primary from caucus to election which would have meant the Northern part of the state would roll over Southern Utah. We believe the real purpose was to get rid of Mike Lee.

My point in all of this is that Mike Lee entered politics as a good guy, but has been beaten down by the whole situation in Utah.

Unless you are very independent minded, Utah if very clannish. The rebukes are sharp here.

Your anecdote rings try GeaugaRepublican. I recall another Geauga Republican, Congressman Nathan Deal, who had the nerve to ask the White House for confirmation of Obama's eligibility and was answered with an IRS scouring of ten years of income tax returns.

Mike Lee was claimed to be an Constitutional Originalist. Even Cruz' and Obama's constitutional law professor, Larry Tribe, points out Cruz' hypocrisy. Cruz and Lee should both review Minor v. Happersett, 88 U.S. 162, (1875):

The Constitution does not, in words, say who shall be natural-born citizens. Resort must be had elsewhere to ascertain that. At common-law, with the nomenclature of which the framers of the Constitution were familiar, it was never doubted that all children born in a country of parents who were its citizens became themselves, upon their birth, citizens also. These were natives, or natural-born citizens, as distinguished from aliens or foreigners.
"low information Senators" Cruz and Lee might read the decision based upon the naturalization amendment, the 14th, that made Cruz, Rubio, Jindal and Haley naturalized citizens because they were born on our soil. Words mean things Senator Cruz and Senator Lee. Our constitution requires natural born citizens for just our president and vice presidents. Wong Kim Ark, born in San Francisco to "Domiciled" parents, parents who were subjects of China,, parents who were not U.S. citizens but acted as if they were, and probably would have naturalized if China permitted dual citizens, and lived under our protection, were made "Citizens", not natural born citizens. Wong Kim Ark 169 U.S. 649, (1898) applies exactly to Rubio, Jindal, and Haley who were born on our soil to aliens. Ted Cruz wasn't born on our soil, nor was he born to parents who were citizens. Cruz was made a citizen at birth by a 1934 interpretation of the naturalization amendment that obviated the need to file naturalization papers for a foreign-born child whose mother was a citizen.

I am genuinely sorry to hear that. That is quite a story.
I have nothing against Mike Lee. To be elected and re-elected some conservatives have two choices, either to be cowed and marginalized, or to break out early like Rubio and Cruz and run wide open for the presidency, just to get the monkey off their back.

Unfortunately, Mike was outpaced by Cruz.

Lee is not associated with the globalists in any manner, even to tease their interest and consideration, particularly the wifey thing comes to mind. Heidi was able to grease some skids for “utterly Ted” long ago, and Ted knew how to capitalize. He turned around and rode the back of first the Bush machine and then pivoted and mounted the Tea Party, riding that movement all the way to the US Senate. Slick as wet ice.

Lee was/is an original. Ted is positively serpentine.
