Raleigh, N.C. — Republican Donald Trump and Democrat Hillary Clinton have sizable leads in the presidential race among likely North Carolina voters a week out from the state's primary, according to a WRAL News poll released Tuesday.

SurveyUSA polled 1,555 likely voters statewide – almost evenly split between Republicans and Democrats – between Friday and Monday to gauge opinions leading up to the March 15 primary. The survey has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.8 percentage points.

Trump tops U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas 41 percent to 27 percent among likely GOP voters. U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida and Ohio Gov. John Kasich trail far behind, at 14 and 11 percent, respectively.

The billionaire businessman Trump, who is scheduled to hold a rally in Fayetteville on Wednesday night, outdistances Cruz across almost every demographic breakdown, with huge leads among male voters, older voters, the working class, gun owners and those who never went to college. He also has a surprising 42-31 percent advantage among self-described evangelicals, a group that has boosted Cruz's candidacy in other states.

Cruz, who spoke at a Raleigh-area church on Tuesday, holds a narrow lead over Trump among GOP voters who say they are part of the tea party movement, and the two men are tied among voters ages 18 to 34.

“No real conservative would EVER vote for Trump!!!!11!11! YAaaaaaaahh!!!”

Maybe so. Hey you could be right. Does that feel good?

Those who vote COUNTRY over PARTY could very easily vote Trump. I’m one of them.

And I’m not alone. You can slap whatever label you want on that.
I’m an American first.

Relax, it will be okay. Ted has said he will seek the win during the convention since he can’t win it at the ballot box. So these silly primaries shouldn’t mean anything to Cruz supporters.

And obviously a whole lot less would vote for Cruz. So there’s that.

No real conservative would EVER vote for Trump!!!!11!11! YAaaaaaaahh!!!

Maybe our Esteemed Founder will explain it to you. If he's busy, ponder his recent words:

"This primary is going to be over soon and we're all going to have to make a decision. No matter whether Cruz gets it or Trump, we must unite behind OUR candidate and the AMERICAN side and do all we possibly can to get him elected and send the unindicted felon and all around America-hating, liberty-hating traitor, Hillary Clinton to her well deserved next term--in jail.

I say we drop the vitriol against each other and against our leading candidates as of now. We're only serving to harden the hearts of our natural allies against us and from this point forward, the hit pieces will not change minds or votes, but will possibly feed the enemy propaganda machine."

I see that. They are all just DU plants though. Paid too. Or as I’ve been accused. Logic doesn’t trump emotion when dealing with cult like deification. Seven Mountains strain must be mighty powerful.

The “conservatives” in NC voted for Barr (3rd party) in the 2008 election giving NC to Obama.

They were right proud of themselves when they did it.

My bet is Cruz pulls over 35% with Kasich and Rubio still in it.
If somehow they were to drop - he’d get over 50%
I can’t prove that - but the way the votes are filtering over to Cruz and not Trump I believe I am right.

This election cycle is a rude awakening for the press, gopE, conservative pundits, and those who support conservatives who have lack broad appeal.

Cruz has been outperforming the final polls while Trump’s polling has been fairly accurate. I’ve been with Cruz since before Trump even got in but I will be OK with either. My only problem with Trump has nothing to do with him but the attitude of some of his supporters. Completely ridiculous assertions that Cruz is establishment. Flies in the face of Cruz entire tenure. When they (elites) still thought Trump couldn’t win many suggested he was preferable to Cruz.

“And if Rubio and Kasich get out of the race, then what?”

Trump goes over 50%.
