Bernie Sanders, the Senator representing the socialist paradise of Vermont, has apparently never seen a poor white person. This is understandable since about 1% of the state's population is black.
But Sanders considers himself an expert on the racial divide in poverty. And at last night's debate with Hillary Clinton, the Senator expounded on his theories of race and poverty.
During the CNN Democratic debate Thursday night Sen. Bernie Sanders claimed that if someone was white they don’t know what it’s like to be poor or live in a ghetto.
“When you’re white you don’t know what it’s like to be living in a ghetto, you don’t know what it’s like to be poor,” said Sanders. “You don’t know what it’s like to be hassled when you walk down the street, or dragged out of a car.”
The remarks came in response from a question by CNN’s Don Lemon that asked candidates what “racial blind spots” they had.
Clinton responded by saying, “being a white person in the United States of America I know that I’ve never had the experience that so many people in this audience have had.” Hillary went on to say, “I have spent a lot of time with the mother’s of African-American children who have lost them — Trayvon Martin’s mother.”
Sanders hasn't traveled much in the US. He certainly hasn't been to Appalachia where many whites live in severe poverty not seen in the inner city. Nor has he been to many places in the Mountain West were the killing of coal has made paupers out of thousands of white people.

Bernie and Hillary are just playing to their base: Blacks, Latinos, and Kool-Aid drinking, guilt-tripping Liberals. They complain about what Trump says but are shameless in their own pandering.
Yes they do!
Living in mom’s basement is awful. Having to do chores is just demeaning. Can’t get a job that pays what enough to be proud.
Or used bacon grease on toast instead of butter.
Racist liberals today only see the color of our white skin and condemn us. All the while their current crop of “pitifully poor” persons of color exist off the fat of a government that gives them EITC, Advance EITC, Section 8, SNAP, WICs, AFDC, and all the rest, yet they still steal the copper pipes, plumbing and fixtures from the Section 8 homes they temporarily infest.
Remember that Georgia woman bitter complaining about her “unpayable” electric bill while the photo shows a large widescreen and Nintendo in the background? Stories like this are repeated by the thousands. Not a damned one of them is starving. Remember that brood mare holed up in a motel with 7 kids complaining about how “somebody gotta take care of all these kids?”
There are poor whites in this country. There are poor whites who work hard and still lack for basics. And there are poor whites who live off a government check, abuse drugs and alcohol, commit violence against their families, and don’t observe much sexual restraint.
However, even the trashy kind of poor white tends to make a personal hell at home, without banding together and making a ghetto out of the whole town.
And if you’re wondering who is going to pull you out of your car when you’re stopped at a red light or for a traffic accident, I’ll give you odds it isn’t going to be a white person.
Poor people know what it’s like to be poor no matter what the color of their skin.
I work with several people in their late teens/early twenties. It’s frightening how much they support Sanders. They all see him as the “least dangerous” candidate.
So ignorant yet so confident in knowing the truth.
And Bernie, if you want to know who gets followed and hassled on the street, ask a young woman. Ask a young white woman who lives where there are a fair number of black people.
You could even try the experiment as an old white guy. Go to Boston or New Haven, and pick a neighborhood where people qualify to know what poverty is, as you understand it.
Or to be on Welfare.
And poor Bernie Sanders does not know what it is like to have a brain.
The Democratic Party has always been obsessed with skin color. Before it was to justify slavery or Jim Crow and to scare white people into voting for them, now it is to scare black people into voting for them.
No, there's a fourth: Socialism.
Regards,
We don’t? I’m the 8th of 9 kids. My Dad worked three jobs to provide for us and was killed by a drunk driver 3 weeks after his 41st birthday. He left behind a physically disabled widow with six of her nine remaining children to raise by herself on a very fixed income.
I did not own a brand new pair of pants until I was fifteen and became the tallest kid in the family. We grew up eating mashed potatoes from a box of flakes, milk from a box of powder, pot pies at 6 for a buck and day old bread.
Bernie Sanders can kiss my lily white ass!!!!!!
Neither do the poor in this country. The poor in this country have food, dental care, free college, health care, housing, cell phones, fancy hair do’s, big screen TV’s, and fancy finger nails.
That's funny. Me too.
I never knew until 1) I went away to college and 2) My dad got a new (really good!) job and moved the family away from the town I grew up in. These both happened at about the same time.
Eye opening, to be sure. It wasn't that I was stigmatized for being poor, it was that everyone else that I grew up with was in the same exact boat, so we never knew anything different.
Sanders thinks we all live in a world like his commercial ‘America’... God, we wish we did...
You need to get around more, Bern. There are quite a few of us white people who have been poor. But we were able to move out of poverty by hard work instead of choosing the support of other people’s money as a way of life.
Tell that to the folks in Appalachia whose poverty YOUR PARTY is abetting by crushing the coal industry, you filthy communist POS.
We took a vacation last year to Vermont. Could not get over the lack of racial diversity. We kept joking that there were quotas to keep out non-white people. Bernie is an idiot, a dangerous idiot.
