Communicating with supporters and voters through on-line social media has become a key battleground in the 2016 presidential race. To get a snapshot of what's happening, I looked at the candidates, politicians, and news organization in terms of their ranking by followers on Twitter. Here's some quick perspective:
I don't think you can read too much into these Twitter rankings. After all, Cruz is doing much better than Rubio in the race, even though Rubio has more Twitter followers.
Yet I think the number of followers is a indicator of national name recognition and grass roots support.
During the 2012 presidential campaign, Romney's endorsements by celebrities and sports figures was minimal. However, if Trump should win the Republican nomination, his vast network of relationships with people in television, business, and sports could provide a positive multiplier effect in social media since many famous and successful people are active on Twitter, Facebook, etc.

TRUMP 2016
I did a quick and dirty analysis of Twitter followers among candidates and GOP politicians. I think it's worth a glance. |
A few years ago we were told that half of Obama followers were fake. He only had a total of 25 million then. What a crock this all is.
Katy, Justin and Taylor lead the Twitterverse.
This is both hugh and series.
That’s ok with me. I find twitter annoying.
I retweeted a LaVoy Finicum ballad video with my TauntedTiger account and was instantly shadowbanned. 1984
Twitter differs from all other social media: You actually must have a personalty to excel over there.
Trump’s personality is off the charts.
So it’s no surprise he has a large, growing, genuine Twitter following.
I didn’t think I would like Twitter. I signed onto Twitter over a year ago and I found it boring. Then I started up again a couple months ago. It’s on fire, fun, informative and a real joy with all the Pro-Trump activity.
~~Go Trump Go~~~~Go Trump Go~~~~Go Trump Go~~
I love twitter, it’s fun, and I laugh at Trump, he’s so funny...course I guess you have to like him to understand what he says...
I also follow on face book and insta gram...fun, lively, and very informative!!!
Same here!
I like your Vision:- ) Personality does indeed separate the men from the boys on Twitter. Writing good tweets is a bit like writing a haiku -- it's about compressing the maximum power possible in 140 characters! I go straight to Trump's twitter site a few times a day because I love to hear perspective directly from him. And yes, the tweets are often little gems of beauty. Ha! A guy like Rubio will never excel at Twitter. The Cuban wind bag requires 1,400 characters to say absolutely nothing at all. That's his game: to deceive though convoluted words, misdirection, smoke and mirrors. I truly believe Trump will partially rule from Twitter. And we may see our republic evolve a bit more towards a true democracy: everyday citizens will take their marching orders on who to censure and who to praise directly from on top. We the People rule by proxy through a man who I believe will truly listen and take action for we, the nation's working class -- instead of the elite, DC bureaucrats, and coach potatoes sitting on their ass waiting for a government check. After 150 years, Emerson's rule for governing a free nation is still one of the most wise and simple: Do not legislate. Meddle, and you snap the sinews with your sumptuary laws. Give no bounties: make equal laws: secure life and property, and you need not give alms. Open the doors of opportunity to talent and virtue, and they will do themselves justice, and property will not be in bad hands. In a free and just commonwealth, property rushes from the idle and imbecile, to the industrious, brave, and persevering. |
Rely on others for any info found on Twitter or FaceBook. NOT a member, have no desire to be a member. Rarely click to even read when a link might be posted to either. Same with Pinterest. Do find links to that site but seldom visit. No desire to give up my identity and lay it all on the line. If a site wants to know more about you and you must join to read on that site, not worth it. Privacy is treasured too much. There are times when even email is avoided. Where do these people find the time to LEARN all the ins and outs of the rules and games played by these money making sites? That is one line that will not be crossed.
If you do that, you will not tracked.
Thanks for the tip. I must remember to try that.
Call me a bit old fashioned but forums, discussion boards are more my speed. A nice, easy pace with time to think before getting oneself in trouble, deep weeds, or red faced from embarrassment. LOL Don’t do ‘chat’ as well, for the same reason. Is ‘chat’ still around?
We Trump folk are uniting on twitter.
Twitter is similar to FR: You don’t need to log in to see public posts and replies. The vast majority of activity on both FR and Twitter are public.
Sure, VK. The only twitter sites I really visit is Trump's and Dan Scavino, his advisor. I don't use Facebook unless somebody directs me there. I agree, you can't really beat a forum like FR. Only time I use chat is when I'm trying to get something repaired or fixed. |
Twitter is great but if I were Trump I’d be pumping $10-20 million in ads into FL just to be sure.
