Romney touts Cruz wins over Trump, will not reject GOP nod if drafted at convention
Fox News ^ | 03/06/16

Mitt Romney said Sunday that GOP presidential candidate Ted Cruz winning two primary states this weekend proves the Texas senator can stop front-runner Donald Trump, but declined to rule out his own White House scenario.

Romney, a former Massachusetts governor and the Republicans' 2012 presidential nominee, repeated remarks from last week, telling “Fox News Sunday” that he wouldn’t launch an eleventh-hour campaign for president. But he declined to reject being “drafted” at the GOP convention in July to be the party’s general election candidate.

“It would be absurd to say that if I were drafted I’d say no,” Romney said. “We have four strong people running for the nomination. One of them will be the nominee.”

Romney has occasionally weighed in on the 2016 GOP race. But he emerged in full force Thursday when he gave a speech in which he called Trump a “phony” and urged voters to instead back an establishment candidate like Cruz, Florida Sen. Marco Rubio or Ohio Gov. John Kasich.

I think the media have not even begun to go after Trump. Just wait.

The plan, use Cruz/Kasich to get to convention, disqualify and sue Cruz, ignore Kasich, and put Romney/Ryan in. Note in article Romney says he can’t say he’d turn down the nomination.

I don’t know where we all stand but it doesn’t matter, it us against them, the people against a tyrannical government.

We’d better get our act together.

Caucuses are primaries, essentially. Just because you may not like the results does not mean they are somehow less legitimate. They are more fair in that they do not allow for Democrats to easily manipulate the outcome.

If the RNC does try to finagle the convention and give the nomination to someone who did not even run in the 2016 primaries, they are guaranteeing themselves a loss.

The whole support for Trump/Cruz has been because of a tone-deaf GOP establishment.

Cruz supporters like to hang at least one of their hats on the thought, or fact, that Cruz is one of the most hated and feared men in DC.

That visceral hatred is why Cruz can’t run for VP, and I doubt Trump will have him.

It isn’t a question of whether or not he is a Natural Born Citizen. It’s the absolute certainty of a lawsuit engineered by the very people Cruz and his supporters use as one of the selling points for his conservative authenticity will tie the Republican efforts up in court.

Trump has said a number of times in his campaign that he isn’t taking any chances, and he won’t take a chance on this either.

>If you listen, you will hear “vote for cruise.” Not because they want him to be president, but because his losing to hillary may be the only way to stop Trump.

What he actually recommended is to vote for Cruz in states where Cruz is strong, for Rubio where he has a chance, and for Kasich where he might win.

The subtext is “You ignorant rabble. We spent $200M on Jeb and you failed to do as you were told. Now divide all your puny anti-establishment rage at your betters as we’ve fooled you before, so that the we, the enlightened, can continue to orchestrate events as we choose.”

Trump and Cruz combined have over 79% of the delegates and over 65% of the popular vote. If it’s not one of these two coming out of the convention then the GOP is dead. The only thing left is the burial and that will come in November.

Maybe, maybe not. Could be 1992 all over, but Trump is no Ross Perot. The benefit in any case would be another nail in the coffin of the GOP.

Stalin and Pol Pot (from the Washington Post) and now Hitler. I think they’ve spent their ammo.

those are your opinions and I disagree with both of them.. the word primary was never used to describe the Kansas or Maine voting yesterday.. and for a reason,, the vast number of eligible Republican voters did not vote and if you think that makes for a more fair election then you and I are on a way different glide path

“Make no mistake GOPe = Democrat Operatives with “R” by their name.”

Anyone who thinks there aren't democratic/leftist plants in the Republican party needs a reality check. Actually, not having very, very, very strict and draconian term limits is a national security risk. Further, having an entrenched hierarchy running the major political parties in the US is also a national security risk - as it centralizes power and allows manipulation of the process outside of the scope of the voters.

If one were a foreign operative looking at the US political system and looking for vulnerabilities to exploit, control of the organizations that run the political parties would be a very inviting target that would provide a route to dilute the power of the voting American public. We should all assume that anything we can think of as potential vulnerabilities, our enemies (foreign and domestic) have also thought of.

Romney & Ryan have already filed papers with the FEC to run for President & VP of the USA.

These papers were filed on Jan 30, 2016..

Go to www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3405214/posts

Read post #11.

They started these papers in Oct 2015.

Romney thinks they can’come to the rescue ona white horse——

Don’t do any debates
Don’t rent any venues & hold any rallies
Don’t do any telephone polling
Don’t buy and TV ads
Don’t buy any radio ads
Don’t buy any print advertising
Don’t buy any campaign signs of any kind

Neither of these 2 fools attacked Obama with half of the vigor they are using against Trump.
\
Trump has brought out millions of voters who have languished for years.

He has had to find 3 different venues in 4 days for one rally because the demand for tickets was so high.

SOOOOOO—LURKING in the grass like rattlesnakes-—here comes Romney talking like Elmer Ganrty in a revival tent speech telling us all how wonderful he is-——and he carefully refrains from telling the American public that he has already filed papers to run.

That kind of ESTABLISHMENT SNEAKY we DO NOT need. I would NEVER vote again for Romney.

Mitt- You might have arrived late to help the SLC Olympics & you might have saved that event——with lots of other help.

YOU can NEVER be President of the USA in my eyes. You are a back stabbing snake in the grass.

IF you were the last man on earth running for President & I were the last voter alive, I still would NOT vote for you. DO NOT TRUST you one little bit.

seem like a good idea to me.

As to closed primaries and/or primaries; they do keep out Independents and Cross-over (or mischievous) Dems; but, that may also result in a “sword of Damocles” dilemma. I doubt that any GOP/Conservative candidate can prevail today against the Dem Machine w/o attracting those Independents and “Blue-collar” cross-over votes. Trump is the only one in this race who can attract them in my opinion.

That said, I will still vote for Ted if he wins the nomination.

Kansas used to have primaries rather than caucuses. These are better. As for turnout, this was a very high turnout. Low turnout often plagues primaries just as much. You just wanted the help of democrats it sounds like to me. I think the party needs to ban open primaries. They are not fair. As for caucus or primary, I don’t care. Open, closed or semi, I do care. Close them to registered republicans only.

Yes there are differences between primaries and caucuses. Fairness is not one of them. It is the open and closed issue that makes some fair and some not. They should all be closed to all except registered republicans.

I meant close to everyone EXCEPT registered republicans. It is their candidate. They alone should choose.

As a side note to this thread, please consider the following.

If the states had amended the Constitution to give themselves the power to recall corrupt, lawmakers presidents and justices, then patriots wouldn’t have to live with threats from anti-state sovereignty politicians like Romney and the GOPe every four years.

[But he declined to reject being “drafted” at the GOP convention in July to be the party’s general election candidate.]

If this happens, expect a third party to emerge.
