Romanians Make Fun of Bernie Sanders Over Internet Tweet

A Romanian travel agency on Thursday offered Sanders airline tickets to visit the country as residents alternately mocked or felt hurt by the U.S. Democratic presidential candidate, who said Romania had faster Internet than the U.S.

Sanders had criticized the low Internet speed in the U.S. in a Twitter post Wednesday.

"Today, people living in Bucharest, Romania, have access to much faster Internet than most of the US. That's unacceptable and must change," he posted.

Romanians reacted strongly Thursday, with some making fun of him and others saying they were offended. One Twitter user urged the U.S. to scrap visa requirements for Romanians so the country's engineers could travel to the U.S. to fix its Internet problem.

Bernie know you will need fast internet to stream Netflix because you are unemployed and no jobs are available. Oh, and it should be free subizided by the cable company, how they pay for the plant is their problem.

If Bernie Sanders applied for a visa to visit Romania, the Romanians would refuse him because he was a communist dupe. Romanians had more than enough with Nicolae and Elena Ceausescu when they executed them on 25 December 1989.

Is this a parody article? Surely this is a question of fact that is easily resolved - either Bucharest has fast internet, or it doesn’t - and no reasonable person could be offended (or pretend to be offended) regardless of whether it’s accurate or erroneous.

How many Romanians want to return to the Socialism (i.e., Communism starter set) Bernie stands for?

Young Americans might be ignorant and indoctrinated, but Sanders is plenty old enough to have seen what joy communism brings.

As with any good socialist, Bernie’s solution will be to ruin the Romanians’ internet.

Old Bernie should heed how the Romanians dealt with their commie rulers. I’m sure if he did he’d need an extra pair of Depends.

Maybe they are offended by the implied "even" in it. Sure Japan and Germany have faster internet than us. But even Romania has it and they have nothing but candle-lit vampire castles, torch bearing peasants with ox carts and the occasional gypsy fortuneteller giving foreigners the evil eye. < /s>

Could be. The other implication is that the hypothetical fast internet should be taken away from Romanians, “That has to change.”

My brother went to Romania for a while when he was in the Air Force. He said it was scenic.

A fairly large number of Hollywood movies have been shot in Romania because of the relatively underdeveloped scenic locations.

Small European countries, when they finally realized they needed fast internet everywhere, had GOVERNMENT PTT already (post, telephone, telegraph). So they could take government $ and make high speed internet happen. Over here, companies had to start small and start with the areas who would sign on first to pay for covering the poorer or more rural areas. And those areas still have crappy service because where is the incentive for the businesses to cover there? (And some rich areas are badly covered for weird reasons like topography or nimby with towers. When you buy a $12m place on the Strand in Manhattan Beach, you might like to use your cell phone at home overlooking the ocean. Too bad for you!)

But in Berntopia, the government pays for everything. Whoever that is, lol.
