Mitt Romney has instructed his closest advisers to explore the possibility of stopping Donald Trump at the Republican National Convention, a source close to Romney's inner circle says.
The 2012 GOP nominee's advisers are examining what a fight at the convention might look like and what rules might need revising.
"It sounds like the plan is to lock the convention," said the source.
Romney is focused on suppressing Trump's delegate count to prevent him from accumulating the 1,237 delegates he needs to secure the nomination.
But implicit in Romney's request to his team to explore the possibility of a convention fight is his willingness to step in and carry the party's banner into the fall general election as the Republican nominee. Another name these sources mentioned was House Speaker Paul Ryan, Romney's running mate in 2012.

THIS is about Paul Ryan, the pawn of the open borders and free flow economy cabal, including the UNITED STATES CONFERENCE OF CATHOLIC BISHOPS, all for illegal citizenship for global goals that turn America into the North American Union, with us footing the bill and lowering all incomes, BERNEY Sanders style.
I don’t think the GOPe was behind this Romney thing, unless it was a way to add even more votes to Trump. Maybe someone promised lonely Mitt a job as savior of the party at the brokered convention?
Why turn this into a slight against Cruz? He has absolutely nothing to do with Mittens and is hated by the GOPe more than Trump.
This Cruz backer emphatically will not! If Trump wins the delegates, the voters have spoken and he should have the nomination.
They are suicidal. The base hates this type of game. Trump will now win hands down the rest of the states just to stick it to the GOPe. Trump would have worked with these guys.....that is choosing to die rather than work with someone who holds 90% of your views if not more liberal on some of them.
Stupid party.
That is one heck of a brilliant analysis. Thanks catnitman.
I think his spokesman has been on TV today opposing the idea of a rigged convention.
All he has to do is say something to this effect:
"I think I'm the better man for the job than Trump. But I also respect the will of the voter. I want to put an end to this speculation that is destroying our party. If I do not enter the convention with the most delegates, I will urge my delegates to support the leading candidate on the second ballot."
I think a move like that could put him in real contention for the nomination outright, which he's not going to get otherwise.
Out of touch and beyond belief that they can’t see it.
So, maybe they see it but don’t care.
I’ve said all along that this will be a long struggle, not just an election cycle or two.
I’ll vote for trump ias third party if he is denied by shenanigans. If its truly a non-majority convention I’ll only vote for Cruz or trump in the general. I cast my ballot for Cruz in the Ohio primary most likely, but the last two days have definitely caused me to pause.
Why have primaries if people like Romney, Rove, and the rest of the ‘connected’ GOP leadership don’t respect the vote of the people? Why waste the time?
If this happens all this will prove is that the Republican Party is DEAD and that their ultimate objective is to keep the Democrats in power..actually Romney’s little speech today proved that, all he did was give the Democrats all the talking points they need for November, now they dont even have to come up with their own material they have it now without even trying
No it is not. It is a vote for a Pro-LIFE conservative. The only one in the field.....including Romney.
Can I get an AMEN and a HALLELUJAH?
AMEN! HALLELUJAH! AMEN and HALLELUJAH, back at you, bro! >p> :-)
Trump goes to the convention with a huge delegate lead.
The GOP establishment steals the nomination from Trump, and nominates Rubio or Romney.
About that time, Hillary is indicted, leaving the Democrats with no viable candidate.
Trump, the master of the art of the deal, strikes a major deal with the Democrats.
Trump receives the nomination for the Democrat Party.
In the November election, Trump wins by a landslide, signaling the final death blow to the Republican Party as we know it.
I, for one, would vote for Trump no matter what party affiliate is behind his name.
Very true.
Mittens, you lost, and your GOPeahens are about to lose big time as well. The phartee is OVER. We have had enough.
If a GOP candidate who rightfully earns the nod gets replaced by the GOP powers that be, I will write in my candidate of choice while actively campaigning against the GOP.
Is this for real?
