Donald Trump says parts of his immigration proposals are negotiable, but only minor details about his border wall.
In an interview with Fox News Sean Hannity on Monday night, Trump responded to a question about a recent claim, first introduced by BuzzFeed earlier in the day, that he told The New York Times editorial board in an off-the-record tape-recorded meeting that he may not follow through with his proposed immigration measures if he is elected president.
The New York Times is claiming today that they had an off-the-record conversation with you in January, Hannity started.
We had a board meeting, it was off-the-record, suddenly they leak it, its all over the place, Trump said.
They said its negotiable on the wall, Hannity said in reference to Trumps stance on Mexican immigration and his oft-stated promise to build a border wall.
By the way it is negotiable. Things are negotiable, Trump said. Ill make the wall 2 feet shorter or something.
Trump was quick to add that the negotiation does not include nixing the idea altogether.
Building it? Not negotiable.
Would it be negotiable about the 11 million? Hannity pressed. Maybe let some people stay if they register in a period of time?
I would say this, Trump answered. We will work out some system thats fair, but we either have a country or we dont. We need a border. We need a wall.

“He doesn’t need to negotiate anything. He needs to enforce the law and build the wall.”
Well then, he will find things far easier to get going?
Is THAT what you are having a meltdown over?
First Trump is going to be tha’ Hitlerz, now he is supposedly going to be too soft?
You said..
“The betrayal is coming. It will be spectacular.”
His supporters never show any intellectual curiosity to when it comes to Trump’s words. They accept what he says, or, if it seems he’s getting squishy to them, they just create in their minds what they think he meant.
The sad part is these are the people who will be the most upset when they find that the man they elected isn’t anywhere near the same man they thought they elected. I’m tired of Republicans running as conservatives but governing as liberals. But what makes them believe Trump will be any different since he’s been all over the place on issues both past and present.
And being hard to pin down on any issue, it’s allowed his supporters to create the perfect candidate
Yeah, but when Vicente Fox said “I ain’t payin’ for no fock*ng wall” Trump said ok, the wall just got 10 feet higher, so if he ‘s willing to knock off two, then it’s still 8 feet higher than before Fox opened his taco hole.
Genius!
“
Parts are negotiable
They should be. Thats common-sense.”
Exactly. This is just more piling on crappola against Trump.
I remember arguing with Trump supporters that there was no way in hell he was going to round up 11 million people and deport them, and they insisted that’s exactly what he was going to do.
—
How and how quickly you round them up is open for negations. That should make sense. Has he stated that’s not what he’s going to do?
I don’t think so. I believe the wall and Gitmo are very, very fair to compare.
Both need Congressional approval, funding, and action to happen. Obama had a Democrat controlled House and Senate his first two years. He was able to push through Obamacare without a single vote of the Republicans.
And yet he wasn’t able to close Gitmo? Why?
Because it wasn’t hugh priority for him. It was something he discovered resonated with his supporters and he said it all the time in his speeches. That promise alone may have been what caused him to beat Hillary for the nomination.
When Trump is elected, he will have a Republican House and Senate. He will be able to get one or two of his big goals through without having to deal with the Democrats. Is building the wall high on his priority list?
We’ll see. I know it’s the highest priority for his most vocal supporters on Freerepublic. If he doesn’t treat it like it is his highest priority, will they feel betrayed?
Civics lesion 101 now in session.
The Legislative body writes legislation and votes to move it on to the Executive branch who then signs it into law or vetoes it.
The Job of the Executive Branch of Government (Hint:Execute) it to see that the laws are faithfully executed.
Once the President signs a bill into law there is NOTHING to negotiate.
Test on Thursday. :)
Trump isn’t perfect. I’m still voting for him today!
I'm not trying to get you to vote for Trump.
You're voting for Cruz, my second choice, so it's all good.
No, I want you to see Job One, and understand that it needs to be done to protect real conservatives like Ted Cruz.
Trump's taking care of Job One. :)
“His supporters never show any intellectual curiosity to when it comes to Trumps words.”
Cruz supporters never bother to ask “How is he planning on doing anything he promised”.
Just posts about how principled and consistent he is over and over again.....while they demand that Trump detail everything and every step of the way.
“The sad part is these are the people who will be the most upset when they find that the man they elected isnt anywhere near the same man they thought they elected. “
Because we know the person you vote for will be 100% on-target 100% of the time?
According to you, Regan would be in that category.
The NY Times has enough news reporting integrity to fill a thimble.
“Exactly. This is just more piling on crappola against Trump.”
What else do they have at this point?
They arent promoting Cruz one iota anymore.
Will you be disappointed if Trump builds the wall? Will your TDS ever stop festering?
From the archieves of elections past...
This is something I have posted before., Things that are going to go through Congress will be modified. In the past the wall has been modified by Congress so that it never got finished. Trump will finish it, but he will negotiate on the touch back feature as it gets more fully defined.

Trump supported Obama in 2008. Said he was fooled by the hope and change thingy. If he had been fresh out of college you could maybe excuse this. How can anyone possibly believe this charlatan? Or have confidence in his reasoning ability if you think he is serious?
I’m not spinning anything. I’d like to take Drumpf on his word, but it changes so damn often, it’s hard to tell where he stands on any particular issue.
Cruz has been on record as early as 2011 as wanting a wall/fence along the southern border. What was Drumpf doing at that time? Donating to Harry Reid’s and Rahm Emanuel’s campaigns. So, you could say that Drumpf stole Cruz’s idea.
So, if Drumpf pivots to a more “fair” system of deportation that mirrors Cruz’s position, then the only thing differentiating them is the touch-back amnesty that Drumpf is supporting. Cruz says they are not allowed back in.
Also, Drumpf is Donald’s original family name, one he should be proud of.
That there is funny! I don't care who you are. I appreaciate your well thought out and fact based response./s
