Sen. Ted Cruz speculated Sunday that Republican presidential rival Donald Trump might be delaying the release of his tax returns because of possible ties with the mob.
"Maybe it is the case that Donald, there have been multiple media reports about Donald's business dealings with the mob, with the mafia," Cruz said on "Meet the Press."
"Maybe his taxes show those business dealings are a lot more extensive than has been reported," he added.
Cruz repeated the suggestion on ABC's "This Week," seemingly stunning host George Stephanopoulos.
"Business dealings with the mafia?" Stephanopoulos asked, incredulously.

I know this and I am a simple tax preparer. Cruz is suppose to be a brilliant Ha-vard lawyer.
What were/are the name of these Strip Clubs you seem to be so obsessed with?
As long as he doesn’t release his tax returns ( which he should do ) it will open season by his opponents on his possible motivation

He's not going to deal directly with the mob and the mob is not going to play a role in a construction company that has a paper trail leading back to the mob.
That's not the way it works.
This is funny as hell. Will this help Cruz? Probably not. Will this hurt Trump (with his core voters) No.
Will this help the democrats? Yes just like Trump has been helping them with his crap flinging.
Here’s the problem with Trump (and I used to kind of like him). He throws so much crap at everyone that eventually they will do the same thing to him and everyone now has crap all over them.
So really this is Trump’s fault bringing this kind of PT Barnum act to the Primaries. But to him everything is winning...it doesn’t matter what you’ll do after you win, but as long as you win that’s all the matters. So now we are reaping what we sow.
I just wonder how this will play in the national election when the media is going full anti-trump (which he hasn’t seen yet). When Trump’s free media dries up, will he really be willing to spend millions upon millions to have a chance of winning?

You are probably correct. Trump has been preparing to run for President for years now, and certainly would have his tax returns in "order" And it certainly won't matter to his supporters what is in them. he could have claimed Hillary as a dependent, and it won't alter his supporters thoughts.
BUT - it WILL alter and cast doubt to the independents, and crossover Dems that Trump has to attract to win.
Everyone here on this site honestly knows deep down that not releasing his taxes will be pounded over and over and over by the MSM , and that will steel his supporter's zeal, but cast doubt in every other cross over voter Trump has to attract to win.
And isn't that the whole point of Trump's appeal?? That he can win?? It is simple - he has to release them. Sorry - but it is a fact.
I’ve never seen a billionaire’s tax return but can imagine it’s a lot different from mine. I would “imagine” that it would involve several millions of dollars income per year and likely several million dollars in taxes paid. But maybe not.
If it’s “not”, Trump probably doesn’t want to talk about it...even if it’s all legal. And it’s nobody’s business except his own.
Good to see Cruz is using Trump’s own strategy of making headline-grabbing accusations to put his opponent on the defensive. Time to fight fire with fire.

Looks like Rush now has two big jobs waiting for him Monday:
1.) Explaining the New York Times article about how he played footsie with Rubio on the Gang of Eight bill.
2.) Cleaning up for Cruz over his accusation that Trump’s tax return has evidence he worked with the Mafia.
It will be fun to listen to Limbaugh, for a change.

Of course if Cruz gets whacked by Tuesday, then I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt.
