A group of United Nations' member-states on Thursday elected the Assad regime to a leadership post of a special committee dealing with decolonization, sparking protests from a human rights group that had earlier urged U.N. secretary-general Ban Ki-moon to intervene.
At a meeting in New York, the committee's newly-elected chairman, Venezuelan ambassador Rafael Ramirez, asked the member-states whether there were any objections to putting forward Syrian ambassador Bashar Ja'afari as its "rapporteur" for the coming year.
Hearing no objectives, Ramirez declared Ja'afari -- as well as three nominated vice chairmen, the representatives of Cuba, Sierra Leone and Indonesia -- "elected by acclamation." ...

The UN is a joke
And we pay big money dues and furnish prime NYC real estate to this body of total idiots.
A better pick than any of the theocracies.
Looks like the UN FINALLY got something right. The ONLY real estate in Syria with any freedom at all is that which is controlled by Assad.
Watch this, it is VERY ENLIGHTENING:

The UN is a bumbling joke.
Ba’ath ideology is Nazism. Ever looked into it?
If you’re going to believe PBS, you may as well believe MSDNC too.
Were you aware that Ba’ath ideology is national-socialist (Nazi)?
WATCH
THE
SHOW
first...
You see Nazis under your bed...give it a rest.
Why? It’s PBS. I could go straight to Rossiya Segodnya or Fars if I wanted propaganda first-hand.
There is no freedom under national socialist regimes. Especially those allied with Iran, the biggest state sponsor of Islamic terrorism on the planet.
Will this include decolonializing Europe by Muslims? Didn’t think so.
I’m sure that you have enough political smarts to know that which way PBS leans - which is in the direction of Obama/Hillary, EVERY TIME.
So you might be a bit surprised if you watch this show - that’s how I judge things at least.
No, I see Nazis where they are. Arab nationalism and Arab socialism is Arab national-socialism and nothing else. The Ba’athists say this about themselves, never mind also saying about themselves that they are pan-Arab (a clear copy of “pan-German” from their parent ideology). When they “give it a rest”, then I shall; and now I must ask why you’re trying to deny this self-admitted fact about them.
Unlikely. One can be hard left and lean away from Obama and Hillary on certain issues; it’s just the same old mafia politics that has gone on for over a century since the “October revolution”.
Besides, Obama and Hillary are on Assad’s side in spite of their rhetoric.
“Besides, Obama and Hillary are on Assads side in spite of their rhetoric.”
I give up. Anyway, it’s more fun to argue Trump.
Kudos to Assad, he is surely more deserving than most of UN members.
And perhaps once he finally disposes of the Turkish/Saudi terrorist proxies, he can do a little neighborhood cleaning....
As for the Nazis ... this is getting tiring....
All I ask is that people keep certain facts in mind.
Ba’athism is a collusion of Muslims and fall-away Christians for an Arab (anti-Jew) cause, and it’s based on Arab-centric national socialism and pan-Arabism over the entire Levant. Like any form of socialism, it is an imperialistic war plan.
I won’t deny that Assad is an animal - I’m just noting that about the only place to live anywhere close to normal in Syria right now is in areas he controls. Maybe Kurdish areas too, but I haven’t seen anything from inside there.
Facts are getting tiring? One socialist organization supports another? Those that cannot remember the past are doomed to repeat it, take note.
Alger Hiss didn’t design the UN charter after the Stalin USSR constitution for no reason.
From Assad’s POV, “neighborhood cleaning” would include elimination of the state of Israel.
