Donald Trump says he cannot release his tax returns because he is undergoing an audit that goes back four or five years.
But the Internal Revenue Service usually does not look back more than three years.
Generally, the IRS can include returns filed within the last three years in an audit, the agencys website says. Additional years can be added if a substantial error is identified.
The IRS further reports, The statute of limitations limits the time allowed to assess additional tax. The statute of limitations is generally three years after a return is due or was filed, whichever is later. Either Trump is lying about undergoing such an audit as an excuse not to release his returns, or the IRS has found that his most recent return includes an error considerably bigger than a simple oversight. Whatever the truth, an audit should not preclude releasing his returns.
Meanwhile, Trump has tweeted a photo of himself with a pen and a stack of papers.
Signing a recent tax returnisnt this ridiculous? he wrote on Thursday.
In October, Trump had initially said that he would release his tax returns after Hillary Clinton released all her emails.
But I will say this, and Im very proud to say it, I think the country is run horribly. I hate what they do with our money, Trump noted at the time. And unlike everybody else, I try to pay as little tax as possible, because I hate what they do with my tax money.
He added, Its a little tax.
In January, Trump indicated that the release was imminent.
Were working on that now. I have big returns, as you know, and I have everything all approved and very beautiful and well be working that over in the next period of time,

Absolutely. The abomination known as the progressive income tax should be abolished altogether, and these guys want to try to use it as a political weapon? Furthermore, I don't need to see anybody's tax returns. They're private.
I'd be most impressed if Donald Trump paid no income tax, and if that were the case, I'd say "more power to him".
See Donald Trump's private tax returns? Who gives a crap?
Whoever first said it is anybody's business was a collectivist punk in the first place, IMHO...
You didn’t get the memo.
This thread is trashed.
Your army is late and their shoes are muddy.
Both of you seem to think that his tax returns are none of our business and you don’t care if he releases them. As a matter of fact I don’t, either. The question is, if that is his position, why is he giving excuses?
Where did all of these IRS audit groupies come from?
They are just upset that their candidate was “forced” to release his tax returns back in 2012 because he knee jerked to the lies of Harry Reid. The IRS groupies are not IRS groupies at all they are the RomneyBots that were here back in 2012 but suddenly disappeared after Tuesday, November 6, 2012. Now they’re back.
Whatever his tax returns say I'll be VOTING TRUMP regardless.
WHY? Because I don't suffer from TDS.
The IRS can go back to the “beginning of time” if they find something hinky. But I bet those returns are “amazing.”
I had not seen GGG since the gold years of 2006.
Trump is an ignoramous.
A very BIG ignoramous.
Bingo!
Anybody who is demanding this has fallen for a phony narrative. And it's about time everybody realized it. This is just trying to play the Marxist "gotcha" game. I say they can pound sand. If Trump decides to make public his returns, that's his decision.
They say you should keep records for 10 years. Supposedly the IRS has 3 years to catch a mistake. But I have a feeling they can justify doing whatever the hell they want.
That settles it.
Who gives a sh**? They are none of your business, nor mine. Go crawl under your troll bridge.
Law was just changed to 6 years
Breaking news. This should be in breaking news
Law was just changed to 6 years
If I were Donald Trump, I'd give them a photo of myself next to the stack of my tax forms, which he has done. It looks longer and more complicated than Obamacare. (If the MSM had that much free time, why didn't they read the Obamacare bill?)
.
Of course he won’t!
Do you really think there are a ton of people that interested in looking at Donald Trump’s tax returns? Out of all the issues and the problems that people have how far down the scale are Donald Trumps tax returns. I’ll give you a hint: Nobody cares. But in the meantime all anyone is hearing is the name TRUMP. At this point his name recognition is practically off the charts. He’ll get votes from people that can’t read anything except TRUMP.
The Establishment will play this until November hoping to take him out but this will not work any better than any of the other phony scandals the media puts forth. Even liberal American voters won’t bite because even they hate the IRS. Even they value their privacy wrt taxes and financial records. People will be with Trump on this. Reasonable people anyway.
Using a government apparatus the people absolutely LOATHE to be the attack dog on TRUMP says one thing.......
They have NOTHING to stop him.
