Ted Cruz says this 2-year-old tweet proves that Donald Trump 'SUPPORTS amnesty'
Business Insider ^ | Jan. 21, 2016 | Colin Campbell

"Just a minute ago, I tweeted on Twitter a tweet that Donald sent in 2013," Cruz said during a Boston Herald Radio interview.

He was referring to an August 2013 tweet in which the Republican presidential front-runner wrote: "Congress must protect our borders first. Amnesty should be done only if the border is secure and illegal immigration has stopped."

Cruz said on the radio on Thursday that Trump was backing the legislative effort partially led by another presidential candidate, Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Florida).

"Now in 2013, I was leading the fight against Marco Rubio's 'Gang of Eight' amnesty plan," Cruz said, referring to an immigration-reform bill that Rubio coauthored. "In the middle of that fight, Donald Trump sent out a tweet supporting amnesty, saying we should adopt amnesty. Now, that's a sharp difference," he added.

Cruz also hit Trump for criticizing Mitt Romney's tone on the illegal-immigration issue during the 2012 Republican presidential nominee's race against President Barack Obama.

Sorry Ted, the tweet is consistent with Touchback Trump’s overall immigration plan: Step 1: Wall, Step 2: Deportation, Step 3: Bring the majority of those kicked out back into the country in a legal fashion very quickly.

I did not say I was supporting Cruz or anyone for that matter. I do believe Trump is bad for the country. He is a trojan horse candidate and I am sad that so many posters here are buying his garbage. Never thought I would see the day when the Free Republic would display such a level of absolute ignorance.

The crazy canuck said he has it on good authority that Trump was going around when he was 12 saying he wanted to wanted to look like the Lone Ranger and that he loved the Long Ranger’s skin tight pants. Canuck Cruz says this is proof that Trump is really a repressed homosexual and that Christians should not vote for him because deep down he’s queer.

“because he’s whatever they want him to be.”

No. It is you Cruz-bots who love Cruz simply for his state of being — he is the supposed “consistent conservative” the only true conservative.

I support Trump for the issues he has forced into the open, for the issues he campaigns on.

Notice it doesn’t bother Cruzer that Cruz has been lying about illegal in-place amnesty only 2 to 3 months ago:

“Isn’t this the same Ted Cruz who said a month ago that we’ll have a “conversation” about legalizing people once the border is secured? “

A good analysis, but you’re forgetting something. He won’t have to cut a deal - there’s a very decent chance we’re going to have solid majorities in the House and Senate. I think the amnesty lobby is going to have a much harder job come January.

If Trump wins, Congress will fall all over themselves to get tough on illegal immigration.

Because they are allowed to go through the procedure to legally obtain citizenship. Amnesty does not require you do anything,. With the stoke of a pen you become a citizen. But answer the question I put forth.

Since Ted Cruz has said he will not use force to deport illegals how exactly is he going to handle the illegals. It's all good to do away with catch and release but you are only removing a very small percentage.

Tell me how Ted Cruz is going to deal with the illegals already here?

Won’t matter:
To many people believe Trump’s campaign rhetoric over his record.

Following the lead of Sean Hannity
Nothing in his record matters as long as he’s changed during the campaign.

They hold Trump to a totally different standard the Obama. We all knew Obama could not be trusted because of his record (not Trump, Trump praised him). Hannity used to always bring up Obama’s record, now he’s covering for Trump’s record.

Trump tweet - “Congress must protect our borders first. Amnesty should be done only if the border is secure and illegal immigration has stopped”

This was Newt’s stand in the 2012 elections also. I agree with this approach. It’s humane.

Amnesty IS NOT citizenship.

Well, first off, we must agree to close down the border to illegal immigration (something all the GOP candidates agree upon).

Second, no president does anything beyond setting a course. They can suggest legislation, but it requires someone to introduce the legislation. All the GOP candidates agree upon the basic course to be set.

Third, I don’t know what Mr. Cruz desires. There is no way to forcibly deport all illegals who are here now. Its not even possible to deport a sizable percentage forcibly. But you can put policies in place (some by executive action, but most legislatively) to make it less attractive to be here illegally.

Milton Friedman once said that it isn’t necessary to elect the right people to do the right thing. It’s only necessary to create the environment to get even the wrong people to do the right thing.

The same can be said about employers and employees. If you create the right environment, then it will be unnecessary to deport the illegals. They will either deport themselves or they will stay at their own peril. If we stop the flow of illegals and make it unattractive for those who are here to continue to stay, then the problem will eventually fix itself.

Is it your assertion that as long as those who are illegal have to go through some procedure like registering with the government (as the DREAM Act requires) before they are granted visas, that is sufficient to avoid the label “amnesty”?

This has all happened before mac...

After 8 years of Teddy Roosevelt, The Republican Party had flipped to progressivism and so called pragmatism. It opened the door for a long democrat party rule and a government growing on steroids. It then led to Herbert Hoover...and the depression. (another businessman populist)

It’s only happened a handful of times, and has never resulted in a successful presidency.

Again answer my question.

How is Ted Cruz going to deal with illegals? He has stated he will not use force to remove illegals. Trump has stated he will if needed.

You are not thinking this through. If Ted is refusing to use force in removing illegals how will he deal with the illegals here that do not want to go?

You can be as condescending as you want and claim spin or whatever else you chose, it doesn't bother me in the least. But I demand you tell me exactly how Ted will remove the illegals if force is off the table. Will he provide compensation for any wealth they may have generated for themselves and their family, or will he just rip everything away and cast them across the border?

He has made some strong statements, however, I really see little in the way of detail as to how this travesty is going to be dealt with. He has said some things but what he has said comes no where near as a solution.

Trump has provided more detail as to how he will deal with it then Ted has as far as I have seen. Again what I have heard from Ted will deal with only a very small percentage of the problem.

Cruz will enforce the law. Since thy are here illegally, that means they have to go.

I heard him say that as recently as Monday night.

Trump won’t do it, IMO.
