No more.
Suddenly, there are three strands of the Republicanism, each entrenched and vying for supremacy in 2016. Ted Cruz is the leader of the traditional conservative purists. Marco Rubio is emerging from the mud of a multi-candidate brawl to lead the once-dominant, now diminished, mainstream lane of the GOP.
But it is Trumpâs new alliance of angry populists that is ascendant â and on the precipice of dominance.

Does anyone still think he's going to just fall to the side?
No and other than possibly AR and TX, I don’t see Trump losing anywhere for the next month
They are going to have to come up with something quick to stop Trump.
There hasn’t been a ‘Republican’ party for a long time.
Trump is kicking down a door on rusted hinges ... a wooden door that is worm-eaten and rotted.
Who says he is going to lose Florida?
We are mad as hell ...
Oh please, please, please go for it. It will demonstrate once and for all, if anyone needs convincing, how craven GOPe really is. There is nothing there which they could no better demonstrate than by anointing as their chosen leader someone where no one is home.
“We’ll see how desperate the GOP is. If they really don’t want to nominate Trump, there needs to be some pretty fast “smokey back room” agreements to get everyone but Rubio to drop out. It’s the only chance they have and it’s got to happen before Super Tuesday or Trump will win every state except Florida, Ohio and Texas. (and he may do well there too)”
The establishment GOPe burned that bridge with Cruz. As long as Cruz stays in, Rubio cannot get traction which means Trump will be the nominee.
After looking at this for a while, and going back over the entire process, one line keeps coming to the forefront. “”I’m a big fan of Donald’s, and we talked about the race,” Cruz told reporters. “We talked about how we are each enjoying it and how there is a need for more truth tellers.””
I think Cruz and Trump set this whole thing up. They sucked all the oxygen out of the room, together they have close to 70% of the votes and both have a war chest that is more than the GOPe.
Something is amiss.
With feral hogs rooting through next years seed corn.
I’ll amend my remarks. I sense that those are the only places he has a CHANCE to lose. FL, TX, OH... but frankly, I agree with you. If I were a betting man, I wouldn’t take those bets.
My Question for Rubio is, do your voters got to Cruz or Trump?, my Question for Cruz is do your voters go to Rubio or Trump?
I profess Trump benefits from Cruz bowing out and Cruz benefits from Rubio bowing out.
Where is the path for Rubio! Convention shenanigans?
This is one of those classic logical fallacies. Rubio cannot get traction. Whether Cruz is in or out is irrelevant. It just shifts the target of the blame, since the last thing GOPe will do is put the blame where it belongs, squarely on themselves.
No wonder the Lamestream press has it out for Republicans.
Trump is an angry nazi, and you're all angry rubes following him blindly into oblivion. Got it?
Good, now go vote for Rubio like a good little stooge...
“Ted Cruz is the leader of the traditional conservative purists.”
I tuned out after this. Mostly because I’m a Libertarian, not a “Conservative purist” who wouldn’t be caught dead voting for Trump.
Trump and Rubio. Mano a mano. LOL! Of course that is what Trump aims for. It's like the schoolyard bully vs Mohammed Ali. Hey Marco - tell Trump all those nasty things you've been saying.
Exactly. The GOPe is the new Democrat party. The old democrats are progressives, socialists, and communists. Conservatism is on the rise due to pissed off republicans, independents, and democrats who have had enough of Obama.
To answer your question, I think there is something like a 10% chance that the GOPe will find a way to stop him.
And while I have been ALL for an overthrow of the GOPe, it was NOT to replace it with a Frat Boy Clown who is utterly inept at both business and politics.
The only hope is that some decent, solid conservatism can rise from the ashes. I am beginning to have my doubts.
Trump has a very large segment of the conservative base.
Like all pundents they misrepresent who support him.
