No more.
Suddenly, there are three strands of the Republicanism, each entrenched and vying for supremacy in 2016. Ted Cruz is the leader of the traditional conservative purists. Marco Rubio is emerging from the mud of a multi-candidate brawl to lead the once-dominant, now diminished, mainstream lane of the GOP.
But it is Trumpâs new alliance of angry populists that is ascendant â and on the precipice of dominance.

That would make sense if they were going to be on the ticket together. But you think Cruz/Trump can get past the whole - He’s Canadian, he’s unstable, he’s a liar, he’s ineligible... thing?
But Marco's your favorite son. Right?
DEATH TO THE GOP...!!!
LMAO! Welcome to FR, you’re my kinda FReeper!! :)
One thing we’re not analyzing is how much of the gop-e are being primaried as we speak? That would be a strong indicator of ‘outsider’ intent.
I don't think Cruz in or out changes the outcome. Cruz is not in the kingmaker spot.
Rubio is in trouble too, but that isn't obvious just yet. At some point, Trump will pay some attention to Rubio, his record, his temperament, and his (lack of) experience.
Mad as HELL? C’mon now, can’t you come up with a STRONGER way to put it? “Mad as HELL” is sort of wishy-washy when describing what I call “the NOT so silent majority”
I’m a Cruz supporter, and I have considered Trump the likely winner in Florida since September. Those ex-New Yorkers go his way. Old folks go more for Trump, younger folks for Cruz. It’s winner-take-all, so Cruz will have a ground game, but won’t spend as muchper capita in Florida as he will in Grogia and Tennessee.
With Trump and Cruz out, Rubio would get enough traction to win the nomination. But he will never get enough traction to beat Bernie or Hillary.
The first problem in having a conservative president of the United States is that you have to have a United States. The folks who created the U.S. were not conservatives. They were firebrands standing against overseas tyranny, corrutpion and incompetence (we are talking George III here).
Situation today is not a whole lot different.
Good analogy. And if the sclerotic Geriatric Old Party tries once again to shove another McCain or Romney type in our faces, the Party will die just like the Whigs.
Boy aren’t you the deluded one.
The Establishment would love everyone to rally behind Rubio.
That will never happen.
Cruz dropping out would have 80% of his supporters going to Trump.
Because THE PROBLEM IS THE ESTABLISHMENT.
This election is particularly a rejection of THEM.
Nobody with a hint of establishment can possibly win this.
Boner / McTurtle / WSJ / Ryan / NR / Hewitt / Gigot, etc.
Death to the Uniparty!
“That would make sense if they were going to be on the ticket together. But you think Cruz/Trump can get past the whole - Heâs Canadian, heâs unstable, heâs a liar, heâs ineligible... thing?”
Sure he can. If Cruz was going to be deemed ineligible, it would have already happened. It isn’t like these allegations haven’t been thrown around in other election cycles. The only reason why this is so high profile is because it’s Trump and there is an agenda with the GOPe and Rats.
Trump is going to win Florida. I WOULD bet money on it. He’s been here a bunch of times to huge overflowing audiences and people love him. Marco Rubio is “that amnesty guy whose from here, right?”
“Where is the path for Rubio! Convention shenanigans?”....
Well, the RNC could consult with the Clinton clan to get some pointers, as we all know the Clintons are “masters” in the art of “CHEAT”. Any tidbit of technique gained from them would certainly help the RNC.
Trump didn’t shatter the GOP, the voters who kept sending them to Washington shattered the GOP. The voters got tired of watching Republicans bend over for DemocRATS even when we gave them the majorities in Congress. The voters didn’t like seeing Republicans “reaching across the aisle” all of the time to give the minority Socialist DemocRATS EVERYTHING they wanted.
