After Jamiel Shaw's son, Jamiel Shaw Jr., was killed back in 2008, there was a splash of media attention mourning the senseless murder of a young man on the right path. Then came a long, dark silence when it seemed that the world forgot.
But Donald Trump, who Shaw believes was "sent from God," didn't forget.
Last year, the Republican presidential candidate contacted Shaw to talk about the tragedy, in which Shaw's 17-year-old son was killed while walking home. Two Hispanic men had waylaid him, demanding to know what gang he was in. The young man, a star football player with a bright future, did not reply immediately. He was then shot by a gunman who was in the U.S. illegally.
"Since my son was dead, I pretty much gave up on being happy," Shaw said.
Then came a surprise. Trump asked to meet with Shaw in person.
"To see somebody, especially a billionaire, come out. I can't even get a neighborhood politician to come out, that's why it's so surreal to me," Shaw said.
They met. Shaw talked about his son. Trump made a pledge.
"He told me to my face, he said, 'I promise you I would never let your son's life be in vain.' To me it felt like the (future) president cared about me," Shaw said.
Shaw said he had never contacted the Trump campaign, but has since guessed that someone in the campaign saw an interview Shaw did on Fox News.
Shaw said Trump's immigration policy runs far deeper that just border security.
"People are looking at immigration as just an immigration issue, but people are dying. It's a fact. What good is the economy, healthcare, going to school, if people are dying?" Shaw asked. "Trump is doing things he doesn't have to do. He can buy a whole island and get away from crime."
He said his meeting with Trump, which eventually led to Trump's campaign using his son's murder in an ad, changed him.
"This was the first time I thought everything's really gonna be all right. To me, he was sent from God," said Shaw.
Yep...George Bush was reelected without saying a word about immigration. Then, first thing on his plate after the election, he wants amnesty. Thank goodness we put a stop to it then.
NICE!
AP Poll: 86% of Republicans Think Donald Trump Can Win General Election
A new AP-GfK poll finds registered Republicans and GOP-leaning voters put Trump at the top of the still-unwieldy GOP field when it comes to which candidate fits best with their stand on the issues. They give Trump the best marks for competence and decisiveness.
Far more Republicans than not say they’dvote for Trump in the general election, and 86 percent of Republican voters think he can win in November, giving him a 15 percentage point advantage over his nearest rival.
I along with many others have nothing but contempt for those in government who are directly responsible for the betrayal of our borders, sovereignty and our citizens.
They need to be held responsible, one way or another.
Like the lady said, Trump’s not just running his mouth.
“ahh yep
He cared right after he got done donating to the people who are keeping the borders open.”
Yep. He donated $5000 to TED CRUZ
Compared to millions he donated to Hillary. LAUGHABLE
I despise the OPEN BORDERs crowd... And that third world turd going to our border, and playing holy. I am so glad his wall got exposed.
The people saying it about Cruz also believe they are apostles.
Not someone with a title (like reverend or pastor or bishop) but literally apostles in the same manner Peter, John, & Matthew were apostles.
Yea, it’s different.
And He chose imperfect men to spread His word.
“Like the lady said, Trumpâs not just running his mouth.”
Really, because he really has a history of doing anything but when it comes to these issues?
Oh thats right, he’s only supported liberal causes in his history. But by golly he says he’s a Republican now (except when he’s not) so by golly lets go buy a bridge from him.
The Bible is clear that God uses both saints and sinners to accomplish His purpose.
right
No you do NOT get it.... Trump is not the 'holy roller', coming in the name of Jesus... This man's beloved son was slaughtered by Obama's illegals and Trump gave him the opportunity to tell the nation about his loss. You are reading a man's grief... And he got Comfort via Trump letting him mourn publicly.
If it were your forum, wouldn’t you have fixed it by now if it was an easy fix and there was no mitigating factor?
There is a factor we’re not privy to. I can accept that.
This isn't even debatable. They get no more chances.
Hardly a double standard when one is a victim the other a lunatic.
Cruz is the one running a campaign of “God, Constitution, God”. Nothing wrong with that, but it doesn’t seem to be selling
Bitter loser.
You know, Saul changed every one of his anti-Christian beliefs...
Am I to believe that was less difficult than changing some Leftist beliefs?
We Christians are a funny lot at times.
Thanks. True...
