U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry said on Sunday he and his Russian counterpart, Sergei Lavrov, had reached a provisional agreement on terms of a cessation of hostilities in Syria and the sides were closer to a ceasefire than ever before.
Meanwhile, violence continued to rage in Syria. Multiple bomb blasts in a southern district of Damascus killed at least 87 people on Sunday, the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said, and twin car bombs killed at least 59 people in Homs, the monitoring group said.
Russian air strikes launched in September against rebels fighting President Bashar al-Assad have exacerbated suffering and destruction in Syria, where a five-year-old civil war has killed more than a quarter of a million people.
Assad said on Saturday he was ready for a ceasefire on condition "terrorists" did not use a lull in fighting to their advantage and that countries backing the insurgents stopped supporting them.
The Syrian opposition had earlier said it had agreed to the "possibility" of a temporary truce, provided there were guarantees Damascus's allies, including Russia, would cease fire, sieges were lifted and aid deliveries were allowed country-wide.

Lavrov takes Kerry to the cleaners every time they, *negotiate*, and Kerry still walks away thinking he’s some diplomatic genius.
Make sure those 800 trapped Nusra terrorists are obliterated first. Then if the poor, beat to hell terrorists want humanitarian aid, give it to them, right after they are utterly disarmed, scrutinized for any crimes against humanity charges, and deported to their country of origin (oh and take all their money).
I saw the bio of Lavrov. He speaks Russian, of course, but also speaks English, French, Sinhala (Sri Lanka) and Dhivehi (the Maldives). What in the WORLD was he doing in those last two countries? Strange.

What is it about a douchebag trader that makes me uncomfortable when I think about him negotiating on my behalf?
The first five paragraphs tell me that the 'rebels' are getting their asses handed to them and that they desperately need a break to lick their wounds and regroup. Even more telling is that the Obama Admin is practically begging for the pause. It's for the children you know?
p.s. All that's left over there are old folks, women and children. The fighting age men are now in Europe!
