Newt Gingrich has a message for the GOP in Washington: Start taking Donald Trump seriously.
Appearing on Fox News after Trump's Saturday win in South Carolina, the former speaker of the House argued that nobody in the Washington Republican political class should kid themselves about Trump's chances any longer.
It is a huge night for Donald Trump and nobody should kid themselves. Here's a guy who seven months ago for the first time entered electoral politics, has learned at an extraordinary rate, Gingrich said, pointing to his second-place finish in Iowa and victories in New Hampshire and South Carolina.
By any reasonable standard, this is a decisive victory

All anyone has to do is listen to each of the top 3 speak. Cruz and Rubio sound like smooth, phony politicians/lawyers. It’s your b.s., as usual. Then listen to Trump. He speaks like a normal person. You don’t feel you’re being lectured to.
BS. Gingrich is without question the most intelligent conservative politician in existence today.
Newt on Hannity had the perfect quote to instruct the GOPe and Conservative elite - “It’s not up to Trump to understand them, it’s up to them to understand Trump”.
That’s right. Newt was at the helm the last time Republicans actually did something besides bitch about things.
Absolutely.
He exudes personal strength at a time when people are sick and tired of the weakness, equivocation, duplicity, and ineptitude in Washington. Trump has adroitly tapped into that deep vein of anger and people’s thirst for someone who is un-PC, unafraid, and going against the grain.
There is plenty of gas in his tank to go the distance.
I hope and pray he’s not a New World Order subscriber. It’s kind of difficult for me to see how a mega-businessman can avoid it, since everything’s global now. But I suppose it’s possible, barely.

It will take the political equivalent of a General Patton to turn the GOP around into a responsive and productive party. Trump may just be that person but its going to be a tough hill to climb, even for him.
Gingrich stating the obvious as if he has singularly discovered some awesome truth.
Earth to Newt: many of us knew this back in June, when Trump announced.
Newt, love him or dislike him, he is often prescient with this observations, much like Pat Buchanan is.

I was a strong Newt supporter in 2012, and watched in horror as Newt folded like a cheap suit in the run-up to the Florida primary.
And this year, Newt is late coming around to the reality of Trump.
Newt is not as smart as some of us liked to believe.
I like the sound of that. I would hope Trump would at least be consulting with the likes of him.
I guess this means it’s time for Trump to start taking himself seriously.
He *stole* it from all those poor oppressed short, left-handed lesbian Eskimos of color with sinus conditions.
