Scalia's Son Denounces 'Hurtful' Conspiracy Theories About Father's Death

After news broke that Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia had passed away in his sleep, and that an autopsy was not ordered, it didn't take long for the conspiracy theories to begin swirling--especially after the owner of the ranch where Scalia was found dead said he had a pillow over his head.

Scalia's eldest son Eugene has had enough, however, saying it's been a 'hurtful distraction' for the family while they are mourning.

"It's, I think, a distraction from a great man and his legacy at a time when there's so much to be said about that and to help people even more fully appreciate that. And, on a personal level, I think it's a bit of a hurtful distraction for a family that's mourning," he said on Laura Ingraham's radio show.

While many, including veteran detectives, raised eyebrows over the fact that an autopsy wasn't ordered, people must respect the fact that the family also didn't push for one.

"He was a month shy of 80 years old. He lived this incredibly full and active life, but I knew, and he knew, that he was at a place in life where he could be taken from this world at any time," Eugene Scalia added.

"Our family just has no doubt he died of natural causes. And we accept that. We're praying for him. We ask others to accept that and pray for him," he said.

"[My father] would have been the first to tell you," Scalia continued, "that we're from dust, we return to dust, your life could be taken from you at any instant."

The justice's funeral will be held Saturday at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C.

Then stop the rumors...do the autopsy...this BS is going to continue for decades unless it is stopped now. This kid should be the last one to talk about conspiracy theories. The FAMILY is refusing the autopsy and that creates the conspiracy theory.

Eugene needs to get a mirror if he wants to see where the problem started.

Rumors that have fueled by the family taking the goofball track of refusing an autopsy.

If you do stupid things you get unpleasant consequences.

You know nothing. Eugene is neither of those things. He is a man whose father has died and who bought be allowed to grieve in peace.

Pretty sure the family has come out and excused Obama and apologized for him missing the funeral.

I don't know how he votes - that is irrelevant. When he abdicates his responsibility as son of a man like the late Justice Scalia whose death comes at such a peculiar time and in such a peculiar way, he has allied himself with the enemy.

There are so few aspects of the handling of this death that don't raise an eyebrow...

Can’t do an autopsy once the body has been embalmed. That’s why it’s a mute point. (I know it should have been moot)

The son is grieving and he’s certainly entitled to that. His father was an icon of the conservative movement and was hated probably more than any other American by the commie/lib/ socialist/ abortion loving pukes in this country. Scalia’s remains demanded an autopsy to put to rest conspiracy theories that will be a part of American history. How does Putin take care of his enemies? A little pill in the food and it’s over.

It’s not the son’s fault. Sometimes the decision whether to perform an autopsy is left up to the family, but in other cases it is required by law. This should have been done by law. Unattended death.

He’s not Whitney Houston He was working for us. We have a right to know. Likely there’s a mandate for an autopsy

You know people in this country are so ignorant about basic civics. Clinton had a private life. Really? No he did not. And anything that was private should not involve anything going on inside the Oval Office

Any military member over which he presided, by his own choice, can tell you that

The Scalia family is under tremendous pressure from both sides

But there is no way S alias death is a private affair. It affects us and this country’s future.

He knew that

Actually, an autopsy can find an acutely occluded coronary artery as a cause of a ‘heart attack’, but I agree with you that there are certainly ways to induce cardiac arrest that would be difficult to detect on an autopsy. I'm thinking more about the pillow over his Justice Scalia’s head. If he was purposefully suffocated, there would likely be some evidence of this. At any rate, I just think that an autopsy would put a lot of conspiracy theories to rest.

How about if the pillow just muffled the screams of agony or cries for help?

“How about if the pillow just muffled the screams of agony or cries for help?”

It depends. If the pillow was used to suffocate, there would likely be evidence of the suffocation. If there was a struggle, there may be signs of this as well.
