For the first time, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has specifically promised he would sign a bill as president to de-fund Planned Parenthood. Trump has repeatedly indicated he opposes Planned Parenthood funding but has always stopped short of committing to sign legislation to stop the flow of taxpayer funds to the nationâs biggest abortion business.
In a new interview with David Brody of CBN, Trump made that promise. Although his promise will go a long way towards reassuring pro-life voters he would implement specific pro-life policy on abortion as president, Trump continued to praise Planned Parenthood â following up on his âgood thingsâ and âwonderful workâ comments that have turned off some pro-life voters.
Hereâs the transcript and video of Brodyâs interview with Trump:
David Brody: âAs a President Trump, if a bill came to your desk that would defund Planned Parenthood you would support that, you would sign that?â
Donald Trump: âYes, because as long as they do the abortion I am not for funding Planned Parenthood but they do cervical cancer work. They do a lot of good things for women but as long as theyâre involved with the abortions, as you know they say itâs 3% of their work, some people say itâs 10%, some people say itâs 8%, I hear all different percentages but it doesnât matter. As long as theyâre involved with abortion, as far as Iâm concerned forget it, I wouldnât fund them regardless. But they do do other good work. You look at cervical cancer. Iâve had women tell me they do some excellent work so I think you also have to put that into account but I would defund Planned Parenthood because of their view and the fact of their work on abortion.â
David Brody: âAlright but there are other groups as well not just Planned Parenthood that do that fine work.â
Donald Trump: Thatâs right but they do a big job. There are a lot of women taken care of by Planned Parenthood so we have to remember that but I am for defunding Planned Parenthood as long as they are involved with abortion.â
Even though they do “good things”?
He did regarding any portion going to abortions only.
For some of that franchise it would be 85% of their budget.
If anybody thinks a Republican congress will send him such a bill you live in fantasy land.
How ‘bout an Executive Order?
Wait, last week he said he wouldn’t because “they do good things”.
His internal polls must have shown him that people want PP defended, so he “changed” his mind.
How many more times will he?
Wait a minute, in the debate the other day didn’t he say.....
Ah, forget it.
A new Donald position on PP? It must be Thursday.
Just another say anything politician trying to get elected I guess...
I don’t respect how Cruz did it, but I thank him for forcing Trump to back up his words.
How will America survive if all those “good things” that PP does go away? Trump must have polled the question. He’s such a transparent charlatan.
Deflecting!!
He’s been perfectly consistent. He said as long as they’re in the abortion business, he’d defund them!
I thought the house already passed such a bill.
“I donât respect how Cruz did it, but I thank him for forcing Trump to back up his words.”
How would you have done it?
Another win for Cruz.
So I guess this makes Trump a liar. Possibly the biggest liar I’ve ever known (to use my favorite Trump expression). Pandering for votes.
EO? That may be the only way.
We need to have Roe vs Wade overturned.
Right after that he compared himself to Sanders.....
