National Poll Surprise! Cruz Tops Trump
Conservative Review ^ | February 17, 2016

Posted on 02/17/2016 7:10:34 PM PST by SoConPubbie

In an NBC/WSJ poll released today, Ted Cruz leads Donald Trump by two points nationally.

Cruz has 28 percent to Trump’s 26 percent. Rubio is third with 17 percent, followed by Kasich at 11, Carson at 10, and Bush in last place at 4 percent.

“The results from the poll -- conducted after Trump's victory in New Hampshire, as well as after Saturday's GOP debate in South Carolina -- are a significant reversal from last month, when Trump held a 13-point lead over Cruz, 33 percent to 20 percent.”

Donald Trump has polled first in 31 consecutive national polls since November, when Dr. Ben Carson briefly led Mr. Trump. Cruz’s lead over Trump comes a surprise given recent polling in South Carolina. Mr. Trump currently leads Ted Cruz by double digits there, with the South Carolina primary taking place on Saturday.

Republican pollster Bill McInturff, who conducted this survey, says Trump's drop could signal being “right on top of a shift in the campaign.”

“When you see a number this different, it means you might be right on top of a shift in the campaign. What you don't know yet is if the change is going to take place or if it is a momentary 'pause' before the numbers snap back into place.”

In hypothetical one-on-one matchups, the NBC/WSJ national poll shows Trump behind both Cruz (56 percent to 40 percent) and Rubio (57 percent to 41 percent).

Tea Party Republicans are a category too... Pollsters divide us up into groups attempting to get the right balance - - so their polls will reflect the future vote. I would most likely fall into the group known as 'Tea Party'... but I'm still 'conservative'. They break us up like this for statistical reason - to get a clearer picture...

You realize that 10% increase can be 1 additional voter in this category?

“Cruz was not born here. He cannot be president. He cannot be anything after today.”

Has there been a major legal opinion about that or you just hoping?

It's been a tough day for them. Poll after poll out of SC has been devastating and prelim estimates are that Trump will take 44 out of 50 delegates with potential of 47. Nevada numbers were brutal as well.

If I were a Cruz supporter, I think I would have quietly conceded the primary to Trump after New Hampshire. The handwriting was on the wall even before Iowa, but after the first real primary contest, it was doubly confirmed.

There is no path to the nomination for Ted, because Trump simply has too much momentum and support across all demographics, to overcome. That's been the long and short of it all along, and anyone with their eyes wide open could see it.

The last several months of bashing, thrashing, and hurtful infighting on this site, has been for naught, because the contest was decided by the American people before the first vote was cast.

As they say, 'It's all over, but for the crying, and unfortunately, we're going to be listening to that for months and months to come.

If they start in the morning, they might be able to get through each stage of the grief process by late Saturday....that’s when reality is going to hit. ;>)

Good God. We can not have a liar in chief. Cruz has a natural way of lying CONSTANTLY. He said Clinton nominated Trump’s sister to the federal judgeship.........WRONG. Such a liar. See below. Finally you may vote for Trump.

Theoretically an accurate poll could be done with as small a number as twelve people... IF you had the right twelve. I suspect this poll had a larger sample.

This is a "surprise"?

Reminds me of the AP's use of "...unexpectedly".
