Ted Cruz has inched ahead of Donald Trump in a new national poll released Wednesday.
The Texas senator has the backing of 28% of Republican voters nationwide, unseating Trump, who won the support of 26% in the latest NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll. But Cruz's 2-point edge is within the poll's margin of error.
Florida Sen. Marco Rubio comes in third with 17% support, followed by Ohio Gov. John Kasich at 11%, Ben Carson at 10% and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush in last place with 4%.
The results are a major change from last month's NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll, when Trump held a 13-point lead over Cruz, 33% to 20%.
The latest survey was conducted by Republican pollster Bill McInturff and Democratic pollster Peter Hart after Saturday's GOP debate in South Carolina....

“Oooo...I know, let’s publish a poll that makes Cruz look like he’s got life just before the SC vote...maybe that will help that Trump guy from winning”...
Missed that, however it is about the same!!!!
Don’t confuse the TrumpBots with either Reality or the Truth.
They can’t handle it.
The Cruz-Trump numbers are just a cover for the REAL purpose of the poll. Giving the GOP permission to cave on SCOTUS.
This survey was conducted by Republican pollster Bill McInturff and Democratic pollster Peter Hart after Saturday’s GOP debate in South Carolina, using 400 responders.
Must have been the Luntz group and their friends, right?
We’re see on Sat. what the reality is.
Liberals want Cruz to win so they can attack him in the courts.
Well, the other two polls run at the same time (Quinnpiac and USA Today) show Trump up 20% and 15% respectively. So either one is an outlier or two are.
Cruz beats Hillary, Trump loses. Right here on RCP:

Of course most Trump supporters like to ignore these polls.
Nice graphics from old polls. I notice you didn’t use the ones posted on RCP today, since they don’t follow your agenda.
Actually, whetheer true or not, it will be fascinating to see if Trump can keep the stem pressure in his head below a 1000 psi.
His downfall is that he is so easy to goad, that Cruz can now play him like a fiddle. Someone should tell Donald that, if anyone is brave enough.
“Ohio Gov. John Kasich at 11%, Ben Carson at 10% and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush in last place with 4%.”
These guys need to go AWAY.
Wonder if MSNBC will ask Trump about this tonight in his town hall! It would be great to see his head explode over this.

You might want to read this on a national poll....
That is a great chart, Cruz is doing a little better against Hillary. Now lets see a chart of the unfavorables of Clinton, Trump and Cruz, do you have one of those?
Oh no(es)!!!!!!!!
We’re months away from a GOP nominee so we should worry who can out poll the RATs now.
Probably an outlier at this point, although we have heard whispers that the race has tightened since New Hampshire.
I will to see more polls trending this way before I believe it.
Oh please do keep posting child. Your infantile snarking is exactly the moronic sort of political tactics guaranteed to
drive people away for your candidate.
