Cruz unloads on Trump after slipping in South Carolina polls
The Hill ^ | 2/17/2016 | Ben Kamisar

The incoming fire appears to have taken a toll in South Carolina, a state that had been seen as favorable territory for Cruz due to its conservative and evangelical bent.

But new polls released this week show Cruz trailing by double digits, with Trump poised for a huge win in the state on Saturday. Wednesday's Monmouth University poll gives Trump 35 percent support, nearly doubling Cruz, who garnered just 19 percent.

Trump's lead extends to the very evangelical community that Cruz had expected to win in large numbers.

Trump isn’t Hitler. He’s the anti-Christ.

Well it was a dirty tactic by his campaign to grab crucial votes at that time. Had Cruz lost the Jesus vote in Iowa he would have had nothing to move ahead on. He would be gone son instead of another month or so.

How many did he grab? Certainly, there must be a groundswell of anger in Iowa by all of the disenfranchised Carson voters...

You have officially gone around the bend...I suppose you might concur with Beck that God killed off Scalia so Teddy can win president.

My goodness I have to take a break from this lunacy.

Well it was said that only 4 votes switched in any single precinct would have major implications since so few vote in Iowa to begin with.

I find that hard to believe. They had more votes this year than any prior year. You're making stuff up.

You're welcome. We all know how you proto fascists love your mass rallies.

Judging from the results of the daily FreeRepublic caucus thread results, about 2/3 of the people here support Trump. Are you saying that you believe the majority of FreeRepublic posters are fascists?

So, you will vote for an amnesty pimp? My, how you care about the country.

What a little weasel you are.

Some of you act like that if you throw a big ole tantrum, people will give you what you want.

May work here with a few on FR, but it won’t work elsewhere.

There are many precincts and four votes in any had the possibility of flipping precincts. That one was in the news on Fox and elsewhere.
That was probably why on the Democrat side you had coin flips right?

Cruz’s mistake was running a campaign of ideolgoical purity in a year when voters are fed up with poltics as usaul.

There I fixed it. No candidate has ever won a nomination or the presidency on a campaign based on nothing more than "I'm the real conservative". This was a fatally flawed strategy from the onset, regardless of the particulars of this election cycle. This strategy has never won, and will never win. If that's all you have, you will never survive a primary. Even Ronald Reagan, easily the most conservative ideological President of most living peoples life time did not run for the nomination on a message of simply I'm the real conservative.

Bingo! Trump was CREATED by the rest of the candidates, because Trump baited them, and they pounced all over it, responded to every challenge, every innuendo, every barb.

And the more they responded to Trump, the more it became evident that they were dancing to Trump's tune.

Which completely reinforced what Trump was saying about knowing how to take these Washington guys on and win again.

The only way to defeat Trump was to ignore Trump. He could only ratchet up the rhetoric so much before he sounded like a complete loon, but everyone went toe to toe with him.

That ship has now sailed.

Anyone who has listened to Trump’s rallies and interviews, read a couple or even on of his books (such as Time to Get Tough, 2011), read his press releases, position papers, and what people who know him say about him - would know that he is not lying.

Actually, you are the one lying.

I truly believe that Trump is a fascist. So, yes I would support Rubio to stop him if Cruz is unable too.

Sorry, it’s fast becoming clear that Cruz doesn’t matter.

How disappointing. I’m one of the people that helped put him in Congress. The Cruz that ran for Senate is not the one I am seeing now.

“I support Ted in doing whatever he can to derail the orange fascist.”

With that logic we can expect Goldsborough to vote for the Dem nominee is Trump becomes the Republican candidate.

“Trump is treating the primary process like an Audition, while Ted is treating it like an Interview process”

Ted is treating it like a purity test to separate the “believers” from the “non-believers”
