Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.), ranking member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, predicted on Sunday that if Republicans block President Barack Obama's nomination to replace the late Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, voters will give Democrats a majority in the Senate in the next election.
"I think what we ought to do is nominate somebody," Leahy told Dana Bash on CNN's "State of the Union" show, one day after the death of Scalia at age 79.
"If the Republican leadership refuses to even hold a hearing, I think that is going to guarantee they lose control of the Senate, because I don't think the American people will stand for that. They want us to do our job," Leahy said. "They can see us doing recess after recess, time off all year long." ...

“... the Republican base believes they will lose the Senate if they donât block it.”
EXACTLY! And .. as usual, we have the DemocRATS trying to make it happen their way by LYING ABOUT WHAT THE REPUBS SHOULD DO.
ROTFLOL .. I didn’t think Leahy was still in the Senate.
I doubt that will happen. The GOP will lose seats but not because of the Scalia issue and not enough to lose control of the Senate.
Unless of course Lynch gets a expert to testify that Hillary has multiple personalities and that the one running for president is not the same one who sold state secrets to the highest bidder, setup her own email server, and was responsible for the deaths of many in Benghazi or any of those who crossed her in the past. "You see that was Hitlery not Hillary, your honor"..../s
“ROTFLOL .. I didnât think Leahy was still in the Senate.”
I don’t really care what Democrat is in the Senate. Republicans are in the majority and they control this entire process. We the people put them there. They better not drop the ball on this.
He’s full of crap. Traitor.
If that were the case, I’d trade the traitors in the Senate for keeping a leftist hack off the court. Any day of the week.
ComDems can pound sand.
And your statement is totally correct.
“the truth has no agenda”
And the ComDems never tell the truth.
Simple solution, she resigns.
So a Democrat is predicting the Republicans will lose the senate if they don’t do what the Democrats want? And this is somehow newsworthy?
If Leahy had said “Republicans have such a strong grip on the Senate that they can likely block Obama’s nominations without fear of losing control of the Senate.” THAT would be newsworthy.
As is, this is a dog-bites-man story. Move on.
No contest.
He could be right, under this scenario.
Obama nominates a black female. The Senate refuses to move the nomination ahead. She becomes the latest “War On Women, Republicans are Racist!” poster child, which spurs the Obama coalition to turn out and vote in large numbers once again.
Why does he think that the GOP is going to “lose” the Senate?
This will help the GOP bigtime.
Leahy is sooo concerned about Republicans. Let’s assume there is a risk. Would we want a progressive left court or a conservative Constitutional Court as a republican Senate? I would go for a conservative Court now and then in two years turn our attention back to the Senate.
They can hardly scream racism WE have a black court justice!!!!
The never seems to be a shortage of Democrats trying to help Republicans win elections.
VERY, VERY GOOD POINT!!!!
Rubio isn’t running again....that’s one
Leaky Leahy.
Patrick Leahy, is he STILL in the Senate???
Oh right, he comes from Vermont, where all the people are presumably of below-normal intelligence...
Oh, well then...
Since Senator Leahy unquestionably has the GOP’s best interests at heart, then I suppose we should confirm Obama’s nominee right now, even before the nomination.
Just pass a bill saying, “Since Democrats are the real racists, and diversity is our strength, and since we are a little tougher than the Democrats (but never mean or scary), we hereby consent to the appointment of whomever, or whatever, President Obama nominates to the Supreme Court”.
(I think losing control of the Senate is a near certainty, whatever they do, and that a blocked nominee will be confirmed by the new Senate on January 3, 2017, but it is possible that I’m wrong).
