Veteran homicide investigators in New York and Washington, DC, on Monday questioned the way local and federal authorities in Texas handled the death of Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia.
"It's not unreasonable to ask for an autopsy in this case, particularly knowing who he is," retired Brooklyn homicide Detective Patricia Tufo told The Post.
"He's not at home. There are no witnesses to his death, and there was no reported explanation for why a pillow is over his head," Tufo said. "So I think under the circumstances it's not unreasonable to request an autopsy. Despite the fact that he has pre-existing ailments and the fact that he's almost 80 years old, you want to be sure that it's not something other than natural causes."
Bill Ritchie, a retired deputy chief and former head of criminal investigations for the DC police, said he was dumbstruck when he learned that no autopsy would be performed.
"I took a look at the report and I almost fell out of my chair," Ritchie told The Post from his home in Maryland.
"I used to be an instructor in the homicide school. Every death investigation you are handling, you consider it a homicide until the investigation proves otherwise," Ritchie said.
"How do you know that person wasn't smothered? How do you know it's not a homicide until you conduct an investigation? You have to do your job. Once you go through that process, you can conclude that this is a naturally occurring death."
Presidio County Judge Cinderela Guevara said she declared Scalia dead via telephone based on what cops and marshals at the scene told her -- that there were no signs of foul play.

Btw, there have been countless times were a suspect unintentionally left a weapon behind, cell phones, wallet, ID, on and on. Other times where the victim was left alive, but the suspect was sure they were dead.
The point is during a thorough investigation which has red flags, you don’t simply assume what a suspect did or might not have done. It’s why they conduct investigations.
Yes to all of the above...
It has been done before. In fact, cases have been entirely shelved upon the death of a Supreme Court Justice. But, Chief Justice Roberts appears to cave under pressure.
We have to get too the bottom of this before Super Tuesday
Look up Micotil - bovine antibiotic that can kill you in less than 3 hours and mimics a heart attack. Not common in other states but still used in Texas.

BUH-Bye!
Wow! Got me there.
If an autopsy is ordered by a Justice of the Peace or Medical Examiners as part of an death inquest the consent of the family is not required. See Texas CCP 49.31
How can you speak for all conservatives? And there are different kinds of conservatives.
Hehe, fun to watch posters fall for that ;)
Yep!
Fun to watch Tango complain about “high schoolish” “newbies” and host sophomoric horseclinton like that!
BUH-Bye!
Y'know, that thought did cross my mind. However, if there were the slightest whiff of scandal about this, the media would be in non-stop smear mode by now.
We know there was no autopsy in Texas. That's it.
Did they take blood samples? Pictures? Is there a CCTV system which might have shown whether or not anyone other than Justice Scalia entered his room? Were there any outward signs of asphyxiation? Petechial hemorrhages? Did they take samples from under his nails? What details/samples were gathered at the funeral home before he was embalmed? What type of information was gathered at the mortuary in Fairfax? We know nothing. For all we know a post-mortem could have been done in Fairfax. I understand a post-mortem can be done after embalming.
We know nothing. Period.
If you have answers to those questions and other facts to back up your claims, you might be taken seriously. If you don't, maybe you should spend your time looking for facts instead of invoking the spirit of Tony Soprano.
He wasn’t banned, it’s a mock HTML page.
And another GUFFAW to the sophomoric poster calling others “high schoolish”!!!!
Yes, thanks. The sophomoric poster had just talked about “high schoolish” posters using the term “newbie”...
and might just be waking up the joke on itself now.
Can I join your super cool, secret club?
Or O
no one murders someone with a pillow and leaves the pillow over the victim’s face!
For those who believe a conspiracy was involved — here’s one for ya
“One questionable website claimed Leonard Nimoy, the late star of “Star Trek,” faked his own death, became the leader of the Illuminati and ordered the judge’s murder.”
ANYWAY, with critical issues to be determined by SCOTUS this June, THE LABOR UNIONS DEFINITELY HAVE THE MOTIVE to knock off a conservative justice. A SCOTUS decision against the Unions and their forced 'dues' payments would seriously damage the power of Unions in America. And NO ONE messes with the almighty powerful Unions, especially during a presidential campaign!!!!
When a SCOTUS JUSTICE dies and no autopsy is done, either the family knows something they're not telling us about his health or state-of-mind, or something is terribly rotten in Denmark!
