Somebody shoule ask Patrick Leahy why Congress has abdicated its Constitutional responsibility to have a BUDGET for the past 7 years.

Their failure to have a budget (but instead up the debt ceiling and spend like drunken sailors in an effort to be Santa Claus to voters) was recognized by Russia and China as the death knell to the US economy. We have taken on a debt we can never repay, with no intention to ever slow down the spending. In 2011 China and Russia realized that the US was a millstone around their necks and as long as their fate was tied to the strength of our economy they were in existential danger just like we are. They responded by joining together to form a financial system that would survive the inevitable America economic collapse.

As Kevin Freeman says, “Mutually Assured Destruction” is not longer real in the financial world. China and Russia do not need us, and he believes that they will euthanize the US economy when it best suits their interests. I suspect probably in November or December of this year, which coincides with Obama’s plan already in existence in July of 2008, to be President for “the next 8 to 10 years”. An economic attack and/or euthanizing event such as an EMP would make elections and/or inauguration of a new President impossible and would probably signal sleeper cells to take the state capitols and then move on to DC.

Like I said, somebody needs to ask Leahy why in the past 7 years the Congress has never once upheld their Constitutional mandate to have a budget. That FAILURE to abide by their oaths of office has made us INCREDIBLY vulnerable now. They literally sold us into death, just like Judas.

What? Cruz would suspend his campaign? I thought he took a leave of absence from his Senate job.
********************************************
Nope. That would be Rubio who has the worst attendance and voting record in the Senate. .....Cruz has gone back to DC numerous times during his campaign to participate in hearings and vote.

If I had a choice, HE would be the nominee.

I agree. But something to keep in mind.

Anthony Kennedy is 79
Ruth Bader Ginsburg is 82
Stephen Breyer is 77

Even if the GOPe can hold off until the next president comes in, there is a possibility of up to 4 justices having to be replaced in the next 4-8 years.

A president is for 4 or 8 years. SCOTUS is for 20-30

Now, more than ever is important who is our President. His decisions can last decades.

Before Saturday, it seemed "immigration" (invaders) was the most important topic to people.

Or maybe to use a current phrase "Make America Great again".

My opinion now is that SCOTUS selection is the most important factor.

Scalia was a great justice. We don't need a SCOTUS dictating or rubber stamping from the bench.

More than the presidency, as goes the SCOTUS, so goes the country.

Cruz at least breaks from his colleagues. He fights Obama more than the rest of them.

Come to think of it, has Trump EVER opposed the President or fought for the Constitution?

*crickets*

I just cannot warm to the man, but I agree with you. This would be his meat, and he would have the opportunity to excel, and become one of those landmark justices that truly shaped the nation.

Cruz’s “filibuster” yammering is pure nonsense. The only reason a filibuster would be needed is if 41 GOP Senators voted for debate cloture on a nomination, which means Ted would have to be filibustering the GOP.

But it’s not going to come to that because there’s no reason for the nomination to even come out of the Judicial Committee, AND McConnell said he would a nomination to the floor for a vote anyway. Ted already knows all of this, so he’s simply pandering to people he thinks are ignorant and trying to puff himself up into a phony hero.

Both Ted and Trump bother me on multiple issues. Not trivial in either case.

Ted appears more stable. How much Ted is part of the ruling gope/uniparty is debatable, and his wife and dad are negative baggage. His personal stability on issues is better.

Really despair at our current pickings.

Cruz etc need to show the possible Rino POTUS nominees why they might wnt to be able to pick a SCOTUS nominee next year. He needs to convince them it is in their best interests, if elected, to have this power to nominate Scalia’s replacement.

I don't think Cruz supporters understand that this is why Trump has appeal. Since basically 1988, we have been losing ground, always going backwards. Republicans have become so accustomed to losing ground that they think a guy who says he will not cede 1 inch of ground is the greatest thing since Reagan. Truth is, we need to push the hordes back, not hold them at bay.

I doubt Trump will be able to do most of what he promises but if he can do some, it will be better than the others who promise to slow the decline.

That’s fine. Please note that not one of Ted’s filibusters has stopped anything

Trump is a private citizen not a sitting senator. He has no capacity to block anything that the senate chooses to do

Democrats were the majority in Cruz’s Obamacare and gun control filibusters. He and his associates didn’t fail us. The rest of the Senate did.

This is why the nomination shouldn’t be done in an election year. Way too politicized. It’s also what’s wrong with the court. Way too politicized. But we’ve got numb nuts for president who’s going to force it through to make a circus of the process.

Does McConnell.even have to bring the nomination up for a vote? The nomination should die in committee.

He stopped nothing. He did not filibuster any of the ridiculous bills passed since he has been there

He is a first term senator. He was not there in 2009 when Ocare was being slammed through.
