Donald Trump Floats Idea of a Third-Party Run Again
ABC News ^ | Feb 15, 2016 | BRAD MIELKE

At a town hall today in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, Donald Trump floated the idea -- without explicitly threatening to do so -- that he may run as an independent candidate.

Trump attacked the Republican National Committee, saying it "better get its act together" and it "does a terrible job." Trump said he believes the RNC treated him unfairly.

Trump also went off on the crowd that booed him during Saturday night's GOP debate in South Carolina: "Look at it, that was a wealthy room."

"The whole room was made of special interests and donors, which is a disgrace from the RNC," Trump said. "The RNC better get its act together because, you know, I signed a pledge. The pledge isn’t being honored by the RNC."

Trump signed an RNC pledge in September, agreeing not to run a third-party candidacy and to support the eventual Republican nominee.

"I signed a pledge, but it’s a double-edged pledge. As far as I’m concerned, they’re in default on their pledge," Trump said of the RNC.

Trump also spent several minutes hitting Sen. Ted Cruz on dirty campaign tactics, calling him the most dishonest guy in politics he’s ever met.

He’s criticized Cruz “holding up the Bible,” and says he’s beating Cruz when it comes to evangelical voters.

-— Right now, Rafael Cruz would have a better chance of riding a unicycle while juggling flaming chainsaws as he does becoming Trumps VP. -—

So why did Trump say that he was considering Cruz, who was born in Canada, for VP? Was he blowing smoke as usual?

Trump said back in August that he had his legal people look at it and that Cruz was eligible. Has the Constitution or the circumstances of Cruz’ birth changed since then?

Ya need to know, for the D.C. party cheerleaders, anyone not supporting Cruz and the RNC, et al, who are all being bankrolled by insider special interest and lobbyist, must be a troll.

It’s their game. And they’re losing big.

Trolls are revealing themselves in this thread. Anyone advocating throwing a vote to a 3rd party RINO instead of to conservative Cruz, should he win the GOP nomination, is certainly a paid liberal hack! Hopefully, if by some miracle Cruz wins, FR will finally put a stop to it!

As for those that jump in on the side of this crap article, well, it just makes me shake my head. Sad to see such desperation.

“The way Trump was treated in the last debate was shameful

The way The Donald acted in the last debate was not only shameful but childish, immature, vindictive, nonresidential, unhinged, desperate, sullen, petulant, etc.

Are you stuttering? Maybe there are some new insights which have come into play since August. We, the American people, need to know - one way or the other. I thought he was eligible too until I did some further research. There are some important missing links in his story.

Better update yourself Tom. That was then, this is now. Rafael Cruz’s chances of being a VP or anything else in a Trump Administration are zip, zero.

He would do it because that debate room crowd really was an abuse of fairness. Cruz said the same thing. Many others have commented on it.

Yes, it is not the first debate either...so the frontrunner gets no tickets? In what world should that fly?

It was particularly horrendous when the idiot donor class cheered wildly when GOPe golden child Rubio repeated the Donald Trump talking points on Cruz/Carson in Iowa.

It was a bizarre night... with Trump sounding like Cecile Richards at a Code Pink meeting... and Rubio parroting ‘liar,’ and ‘stolen votes’ as if he had stayed up all night playing with a Donald Trump action figure the evening before.

Pat Buchanen was saying the same thing at the beginning of the Iraq War. Was Buchanen ‘code pink’ OR have we just failed to admit there were republicans who didn’t support going to war. (Ron Paul, Rand Paul, Buchanen, etc.)

Nonsense. I have never said I was against Citizen's United. In fact, I firmly believe that case was decided properly.

That said, I think it is PERFECTLY reasonable for a candidate to call out opponents for being in the pocket of special interests.

Regarding your quote: "And to influence you pay up."

Again I say nonsense. That is the way that YOU have chosen to have influence. Millions of Trump supporters (and, for that matter Sanders' small donors) have illustrated that influence doesn't necessarily have to be paid for.

We both agree that Citizen's United was decided properly. But even though it is Constitutional, that doesn't mean there are not, or that there should not be, repercussions for candidates who accept millions from large donors. It's a political risk, just like many other calculations candidates have to make.
